R32 With Rb25, Getting It Past A Regency Inspection.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at purchasing an R32 skyline with an RB25DET in it from VIC, now the car is registered but only with the RB20DET so when I get it inspected at sturt it will obviously fail the numbers check. What would I need to change to get it through a regency inspection?

I know it needs R33 brakes. The car currently has a aftermarket fuel reg, pod, fmic, high flow turbo, exhaust, wold 3D ecu, vented catch can, rims and suspension.

Now the owner has said he can supply the original ecu, afm, stock cooler and piping and wheels. I can get an exhaust that is stock off a mate to put on it. How many of these things would need to be changed to get it past? I was planning on changing them all minus the fuel reg, however I'd rather not change the ECU unless its necessary, as it would be dangerous to run the motor with a stock map.

Also how much would the change of rego cost? Is it much on top of the standard transferral fees ?

It'll have to be completely standard, all the factory emission stuff has to be in place and it'll have an idle CO2 and hydrocarbon test as well, which it will pass with the facotry ECU in place.

It should be just an inspection though and no engineering will be required.

I'm getting all the parts togetther to do a RB25 conversion on a 180sx so if you need some of the factory stuff then i have pretty much everything provided your 25 is a series II.

EDIT! (now that i've actually read your post)

You will need to remove the FPR and you will need to put the standard ECU in (infact when you produce the car to be inspected you have to allow the easy access to the ECU I.e. remove the kick pannel). It would be a good idea to find a factory turbo and fit that as well.

if your really keen you can run a high flow turbo @ factory boost on factory ECU and do no damage and will prolly pull simulat CO2 emissions as factory turbo

or buy Adrians his is 32 with 25 and local

mine has passed regency many time and has all perfect nothlene bushes control arms etc, just needs brakes and stock suspension..

pm me if you want info

Think I just spoke to you on the phone hehe.

Hey i am facing a scenario almost the same - I am thinking of buying a 32 with RB25 in it from Victoria and i am in Adelaide. The guy i am thinking about buying it from in Vic put the RB25 in and spoke with Vic Roads and told them his original engine blew up but here is the new engine number and it has now passed his rwc and is registered with that engine number. They were not educated of the fact it was a different capacity engine but it is still registered with the RB25 engine number. I want to know what would happen if i tried to register it here? -Apparently they apply system notes as to new engine numbers and stuff so i am concerned they might pick up on this?

Probably will get through with a numbers check as they will match up, however if you get a cluey officer and they notice that it is the bigger motor they may send you to regency, I'd say its a bit of a gamble, but not too much of one.

Worst case you have to upgrade the brakes and get the car inspected, something you should be doing anyway. If the car is ridiculously modded I would think twice however.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
