Disagree

But to the OP, I was able to buy one and drive one cause I'm in Perth. They aren't cheap to maintain as previously stated. When I first bought mine, straight away I had a 2k service...

What he said. The main problem of owning a GT-R as a 1st & only car that is used for daily duties would be maintenance & insurance cost + cop attention.

As to whether or not a u should drive a GT-R will come down to ur personal attitude when behind the wheel. I bought my Skyline (cheaper GTS-T model ) 2 weeks after I got my Ps. I'll be off my Ps early Nov & I'm still alive & fine this whole time & I just received my free 1st year license renew for having no driving offenses :(

Comes down to your attitude when driving basically.

When your old enough, get yourself a close to stock GTR which has been treated well, serviced regularly - etc, and chances are you'll have very little to no issues with it.

I bought mine close to 3 years ago and touch wood - have had nothing go wrong. The only expenses are the standard services and also the modifications I have chosen to add and i'm only selling to get yet another GTR. That being said, i've always babied it and its never been taken to the track or strip.

If you at this present date and time - go spending 17k on a R33 GTR - be 100% aware that the probability of you having to dump an extra 10 - 15k in to it in the near future is very likely.

^ What he says is true, hence the stockness of my car . If your totally game on the 17k 33 GTR, inspections are a must, but even still they can miss many things.

Mayuri Krab regarding 1 year free license, I got caught and fined for driving with red Ps (white back, red P) instead of red back, white P. Does this mean I don't get it anymore?

Of course you are. Schumacher ain't got shit on you.

Your an awesome driver so you are definitely ready

Your budget will buy you a piece of shit... so you should definitely buy one. Oh and don't bother with insurance... waste of money.

Wow f*ck you /\

Thanks for everyone who responded with a PROPER answer

ill just look into a 33 gts-t

I agree 100%. My GTR is pretty much a daily driver. ill break it down for you....... keep in mind iv had the car for a year and a half..

Insurance so far $ 4200(paid for 2 years). and im a rating 1 and somehow got a deal i couldnt believe myself since im 22 y.o.

engine oil approx. $ 400 for 25,000kms

gearbox oil. $ 250

diff oil . $150

EBC brake pads $ 400

decent tires $1100 for 18s

front drive shaft boots $ 150ish

etc. etc.

OOOHHH i forgot to mention the 4 defective notices iv had........... including the one my dad coped! :P because apparently ur a millionare if u drive a GTR according to the cops.

all served well done with $170 fines + R.W.Cert.

Im lucky im used to working so much overtime because this car would have been long gone if i didnt.... and looking at the list i just wrote just reminded me why i cant seem to save like i should...

do the maths and you will see why things can get out of hand quikly.

listen to what people are telling you, you dont want to end up regretting your decision one day.

I think it requires you to have no fines near the end of your P period :P

Maintenance cost will be lower, however still expect moderate cop attention, as most of them can't tell the difference between GTS, GTS-T or GT-R.

First time I got pulled over, cop was going to suspend my licence because he thought my 34 GT25 was a GT-R, then when he realised he was wrong, he blamed the mistake on his on-board computer.

god knows how many times i have had to type this... infact i think if i stop the computer will actually know how to finish the sentence by itself

but here goes anyway

"you WILL crash it because at 17 you ARE NOT a good driver.... soooooo get a car that you dont mind smashing.... AE92 corolla GT or such..."

dont whinge at me because its harsh.... its just the truth

If you said "I've had my CAMS licence and competed in khanacrosses, sprints, and circuit racing since I was 14, done XYZ advanced driver training courses, and raced karts since I was 7, so I think I am a reasonably good driver", then we might believe you. I'm sorry but 17 year olds who think they are good drivers are the most dangerous kind.

I know when I was 17 I was the ducks nuts. The only reason I'm here is because the "fast" car in the family was an auomatic Ford Laser. I finally could afford a car with a bit of performance when I was 21 (a rally 180B) and then thankfully I was smart enough to take it bush where I wasn't going to kill other road users.

Oh, don't think that an R33 GTSt is going to be any less dangerous than a GTR. A highly powered RWD on cheap tyres (c'mon, let's face it, You're hardly going to be throwing exotic rubber at it) can be a real handful in most hands, specially over confident 17 year olds.

Again, not trying to be mean or harsh, but that's the unfortunate truth, and the reason the authorities come down so hard on young drivers.

That's pretty good for GTR ownership... I'd be stoked if it only cost me that much!

and 25,000kms is quite a lot for 1.5 years so your getting pretty good value I reckon

I agree RWDs can be a handful etc but when they let go it tends to be at a lower speed than a 4WD car... the more grip you have the faster you have to go to explore the limits... and that's what young blokes like to do

I reckon a young person is better off in a rwd to start with... learning car control etc

Lucky i have a few mates that can get me trade or cost price on things, it makes such a difference in the long run.

As for the kms, i do try and make the most of it... although more recently it has been getting driven a lot less. When i bought it, if i wasnt sleeping i was driving.

    • I am getting the same issue. Did you resolve it? I just got it after installing my new super coppermix and literally the same issue, new fork, new 18mm carrier, release bearing that came with the kit and replicated the exact same sound.
    • If you like - I have the STL files so I can email em. There's a couple of gotchas (i.e the holes are not threaded so you might need/will need) to utilize some M3 melt-in threads for some of the points. However if you want to be super accurate, and are willing to remove your calipers and your SHOCKS it's a really good tool. You also might need to scale the part that measures the tyre width a bit wider. It defaults to a 7.5in tyre and I mean who is running that. Luckily with the magic of CAD this is very easy to rescale.
    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
