Hi Everyone,

Ok so I'm seroiusly considering buying A V35 GT, freqen love it, i was tossing up between it and the 350z and I don't know why but it just looks way better to me.

But I have some questions so I get the right one ;)

Should I get a manual over the auto? Is there that much difference that the manual is a better option. I was reading a while ago about people working on the translation of the Jap screen and that chris rogers had some english buttons for the dash instead of the jap characters. I don't know where that got up to, but its currently the only thing putting me off the car. Can i get the sat nav to work here? Which versions have the bose sound system and folding mirrors when you park :P How do I turn the lights back to xenon, I know they chucky shitty halogens when they are here.

And anything else you shink I should know about them would be greatly appreciated, even if you just have an oppion on the car.

Thanks guys and sorry for the long rant :D

Cheers.

is this the same post as which dragon isbetter?

with a V35 u know there are the low models and high models right

2.5 to 3.5

V35 GT model Full leather interior paddel shift and sex audio system..

but maybe a green dragon with twin fire blowing awesomeness and scaled protection to give it that +15 to armour factor!

Why you always gotta be so weird seriously lol I'm looking at the 2 door 3.5 with leather and bose.

Chris Rogers (Audio Express) has now been able to make all the Japlish gear in the V35's work. It isn't cheap but it is worth it!!

Beautiful cars and they are doing well at the Gympie Skidpan events for SAU Qld Members!!

The Premium model with the leather and Brembos is the pick and don't get an auto... You will kick yourself later if you do.

ok want me to be serious now? :)

that 3.5 leather interior with bose sterio system auto with paddel shifts was seriously horn..

had one in here not long ago felt seriously pimp.. had xennons and everything

if u want xennons have to go to nissan JP as AUS dont stock them due to ADR laws and compliancing..

or ask other compliance shop but highly doubt they will let go of it

2.5 series engine is a pain in the ass to service.. easily to have engine faults..

also the 2.5 got no stick.

Manual 350Z's are currently better priced for the equivalent year V35, interior/exterior of a 350Z looks better as well :) If you're not bothered about the 2 extra seats.....350 all the way!

I don't know why but the V35's look so much better to me then the 350z I don't know why and no Don't give a crap about the seats lol.

Then again this doesn't look to bad either:

Yum :P

Thats a nice lookin ride and they bloody quick for a n/a car :)

Have you visited the V-series section yet? If not feel free to chk in there, most of your questions will be answered. With regards to the 350z VS V35 argument, you can make either one look better than the other any day of the week with some nice wheels and kit but practicality wise I'd go the V35 with the two extra seats for my kids.

Auto vs manual is a personal preference, test drive both preferably a series 2 auto (aluminium center console and leather gear boot) to compare. The auto's on these things are not to be laughed at as the torque is pretty respectable.

Don't listen to the breeder, he'll be in a Tarago soon enough with all of those kids :D

You'd have to get rid of those headlights as well to make it look better than the zed ;)

your call there. the manuals feel quicker to me. that said neither are slow. stay away from the CVT version as they can be quite expensive to fix. (this also takes out the paddle shift idea.)

3lt is a cruiser - 3.5 is lots of fun - 2.5 is a petrol miser but still ok to drive.

done the full thing on it. the issue comes back to $$. if you only want the system in english and dont care about the TV side of things thats easy. (USDM box and buttons) - Navi - that will never work here- no maps. I do a refit on this and use garmin for the GPS.

if you want it to work as built in japan then it's a different matter. that is a full refit and can be set up to be somewaht transparent in operation.

Which versions have the bose sound system and folding mirrors when you park ;) How do I turn the lights back to xenon, I know they chucky shitty halogens when they are here.

GT versions are bose mainly. there are a few variants of course. bear in mind that when the 6 cd units break they are now in excess of a $800 repair for the 2001-2004.5 versions/ the later cars they changed the mech on them and tehy do not have the same issues.

folding mirrors are a dealer fitted option. they do not ship with that as standard. if you find a car with them then there is a good chance that is has some form of 'alarm' on it as well. this is best removed as it is put in with scotch locks and DOES fcuk up and strand you. had 3 cars do this now and I have been pulling those units out ever since.

xenon change over is easyish IF the ballasts are left in place. for the coupes they MAY still be there as they are part of the light. the sedans won't have them in place. if they are gone then its a call to nissan japan for the ballasts or a call to a mate of mine in perth.

And anything else you shink I should know about them would be greatly appreciated, even if you just have an oppion on the car.

cruise control is a MUST. they tend to get away from you when you get over 100kmh. spent a fair bit of time developing one for these. reverse camera does help as you really cannot see behind you properly and you can lose a small car quite easily.

that should take care of things on the electrical side of things. as you can tell I work on way too many of them.

I'll try to answer a few questions

Thank you that explained everything perfectly, I think Ill just skip all the hassel and get a 350z.

wise choice. bear in mind the audio system still suffers the same niggles but its a bit easier to change out. the BOSE audio presents a diferent problem but thats nothing that a $200 lead can't fix.

    • No, code 21 is very straightforward. It can only be the things described in that diagnostic flow. In fact it has no way of knowing that the spark plug resistance is out of spec.
    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
