Hmmm. Well in the process of my alarm installation we've found my car used to have a boost controller, turbo timer and some sort of temp gauge. Also my standard boost restrictor has been removed.

Now with that removed and a catback exhaust my installer seems to think I'd be running atleast 14psi and he says I'm risking detonation because my timing or something might not be right and that I should hook up a boost gauge to know exactly how much psi I'm running and he can make it so I don't run the risk of detonation.

Is he talking shit or should I be concerned?

I found a turbo timer when I had my alarm installed. Was all hooked up, working... just was tucked under the dash in the footwell. You find crazy shit under there.

I thought without the restrictor, it runs at 12psi?

Mine still has the restrictor, so I have no idea.

Man knows his stuff. Boost gauge is invaluable, esp when you simply don't know all the variables (ie condition and internal construction of turbo, afr's with the current tune, etc etc).

I still got a tonne of shit wiring above my drivers side footwell, thats after removing the old security system and turbo timer and replacing it with a decent ADR compliant one. Loads of bad japanese engineering (read: bits of wire twisted together and taped with racing tape) as well as wires leading from my spotlight button to the thermofan (i didnt realize japan got so hot they needed a thermostat override, meh)...

Another job for me to do next time I find a compelling reason to pull my dashboard off

Dion, if u read this. Was just looking at the engine u brought, you do know u have to pay aus customs, quarantine, agent fee's, docking fee's, storage fee's on that engine when it arrives here? roughly another 800-1k on top of the buy it price which streeter has quoted u.

I lived in Japan for a stint many years ago. On the Kyushu island, mainly in Takanabe, and it got hot there in summer. Weather was almost identical to Adelaide's ... so I wouldn't be surprised.

sheeeet, just remembered i hadnt grabbed them engine mounts yet.

tell ya what, i'll grab em tomorrow and either send them your way with one of the boys, or sat nite im heading to redwood park so can drop them off to ya

i just bought a grands worth of shockies for my race car from the states and didnt have too pay any extra tax on them customs had opened the boxes and re taped them shut

I've had quite a few items sent over from overseas worth more than $1K+ and have never had to pay tax on it, yet I have heard of so many that have had to.

Anyone here know spark plugs?

What are these telling me about how my cars running?

Also some new clamps :bunny:

The ends seem to be the right colour, so it tells you it is running right. If you saw plugs that i took out of my car a few weeks ago you would have seen it was running wrong, which now reminds me i need to check the condition of the new plugs.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
