Hi guys! My first post!

I'm new to SAU and skylines. I'm 18 and getting my green p's in about a month.

I love skylines, and I'm definately getting one! soon :P

right now, im paying off the finance for ford escape, its reliable and it was a good first car to drive, but i wanted a skyline since i got my p's :(. So im planning to trade this car for a skyline.

Im on my p's so looking for a clean R34 GT.

I have read http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/bu...e-f-t35129.html

So for me, I need to find a good dealer. I live close to parramatta.

Can you guys suggest me good import dealers?

I drove past Ginza Imports in parramatta road today and saw a clean grey R34 GT, are they(Ginza Imports) any good?

Thanks guys

It's definitely worth the travel Ricky to find a good importer > a good car.

But you still have to do all the checks re: services, no rust, no bad repairs, suspension, brakes, engine running & performance etc.

Back to your Q.

Try...

1) Top Secret Imports (36 Forge St Blacktown 96761023)

2) Nagoya Motors (Caringbah) guessing...

3) Jap Link with conscientious new owners (175 Parramatta Rd Haberfield 97160857)

4) Just Jap (101 Bath Rd Kirrawee 95450532)

5) Powerplayimports (82 Victoria Rd Drummoyne 98197555)

Don't know anything good about Ginza, E.Lee or E&M really.

woah! thanks terry!

i guess ill be doing alot of driving tomorrow.

Oh and i just found the car on their drive.com.au website.

http://www.drive.com.au/used-cars/NISSAN/S...699882&pt=1

Is that a good price? Ill have to go there and check it out tomorrow, but from the picture, looks clean! just the way i want my skyline.

Don't mean to shatter ur excitment, but 20k for a NA R34.....that's a bit over the top....

For 20k, you can buy a decent GTT lol, as I got my GTT for 17k.

I think you should wait it out, until you find a good and cheap one, they should be around 14-16k.

Thanks charles.

but its hard to find a NA R34 under 19k, maybe its just me lol

and its strange GTT and GT cost around the same. wth?

I would love a GTT, but p plate laws lol, what can i do :P. just gotta wait it out for another 2years for that

I wouldn't discount that one ^^^. No engine pics? Take some yourself & from underneath with a flash.

Do you have a mechanic who can go out and inspect a prospective 'buy'?

Have an initial look yourself; and then take a mechanic on the 2nd visit.

Nagoya Motors have a 12 month warranty on their cars too.

Have you also looked at Cars for sale in the SAU Forum here?

Owners on here are more likely to sell a good car without holding back too much info.

Take your time and be patient.

Besides, dealers will be running into a slow period in December and you can better deals near the end of the calendar month.

Hint: When you come across a car 'with your name on it', take someone older to 'do the haggling' for you. I mean it!

If you can bargain one car against another, the savings aren't in the 100s > it's the 1000s sometimes.

Thanks charles.

Oh? I've seen LOADS of people trying to get rid of their NA R34, even my mate is trying to sell his for 14k lol.

Have you been looking private sales or from car yards? Sometimes is better if you look at private sales, it's a lot cheaper than from a car yard, but just make sure you spend a little bit of extra money to get the car checked out by a good mechanic before you buy it.

GTT and GT cost nearly the same because of the P plate law :P Coz lots of P platers wants R34 but can only drive NA lol.

I'm on my P's too :( shhhhh...... I first bought a NA R33 when I got my P's, then 1.5years later, I just upgraded to this :)

But I'm not encouraging you to lol, so don't take me the wrong way :)

lol, thats abit risky haha. dont you get pulled over by cops? i mean.. ur driving a skyline! lol

I would loveeeee to get my car from a private seller, but im financing. Im not sure if they will finance for a private car.

the finance i have now for ford escape is under my dads name, i was too young to get one with my name anyway and im going to keep it that way.

I guess it will save me ALOT on my insurance that way, wouldn't it?

Anyway, thanks guys. I better check over the phone with the dealers if they have the car in stock. :P

Well, I've never been pulled over, so I guess it's just how you drive it. Driven next to, behind, in front, opposit of cops.

Yes, private seller will save you a few grand :(

But as for insurance..... lol.... You shoulda researched before deciding to get a skyline....

As far as I know, there are only 3 insurance companies that will insure a skyline, as others don't do imports.

But it doesn't matter who's name it is under, because they will charge you by the youngest driver....

The 3 companies are, Just Car, Shannon, Famous. Shannon don't insure people under 25. So that leaves you Just Car and Famous.

Belief it or not, they charge pretty much the same price lol, maybe a couple of dollars different. For a P plater to insure a skyline = lots of money.

Full comp = 3k or so, 3rd party fire & thief is about 650. But with Just Car, they recently changed their pricing, if you choose your excess to be like $1600, then you only have to pay about $1700 premium :)

But it's probably best to look into it before you buy the car :(

I just got a personal loan to get my skyline just last week, wasnt too hard to get i only work afew days a week and have been in casual employment for about 5 months.

Are first cars best bought locally if you have a limited budget?

Well it depends on what you want. But if you want NA R33/34, then yea, will be easier to buy one locally, because there's so many of them here already. Importing is probably more expensive lol.

how about i dont put my name for youngest driver at all lol

Insurance companies cover all bases.

Even if a parent owns your car...

i) if it's a turbo, and you're caught driving it, the car is not covered, under CTP you are not covered and you can get fined

ii) if it's an NA, you still need to be put down as a nominated driver, otherwise the car is not covered and the CTP is at risk

iii) if it's an NA, the insurance company needs to be asked during the laying down of the recorded contract over the phone

as to whether the premium rises very much if you were to drive only during emergencies and

iv) if it's an NA or a turbo, and you are an apprentice mechanic, the company can be asked during the recorded contract as to whether or not the mechanic or apprentice mechanic is covered if he/she drives it during the course of checking the car's reliability. This I believe is the only loophole that remains.

I'm not a killjoy. I'm just trying to prevent heartache. People have tried to use loopholes before only to lose their cars.

And if loopholes were easily exploited, our premiums go north!!!

thanks guys, i looked around a few dealers today.

top secret imports were very good but they dont have the car im looking for :(

i would definately get it from them if they had the one im looking for.

in five dock, saf's import & compliance, they had one R34 GT but they said they are getting another one in tomorrow so im going to give them a call to send me some pics of the car and the engine.

and E&M had

http://uniquemotors.shopforcars.com.au/Det...px?StockID=2487

im sure i could talk that down, cuz thats abit way over the top. but what type of engine is that?

oh and Ginza imports....no comment. -_-

and thanks grigor for the PM, ill look out for the engines. cant PM back cuz i have less than 10 posts lol

Go to the Commonwealth bank and get a small loan (anything about 10k is stupid at your age, a lot of people would say even 10k is dumb) then buy privately. 15k will get a very good quality manual two door R34.

Do yourself a favour and test drive a Supra too :( Unless you're dead set on the looks, the NA performance of the Supra absolutely kills the R34. I was tossing up between the two and it all came down to the test drive.

If you're really keen to spend upwards of 20k, look at any Autech S15s in the area too. Very rare, but well worthwhile.

o decisions... lol

the thing is, i don't like the looks of silvia at all.

better performance, but if i dont like the way it looks, i dont think ill be happy driving long term. thanks anyway though, i think that was a nice find!

for me now, skyline all the way haha

    • perhaps i should have mentioned, I plugged the unit in before i handed over to the electronics repair shop to see what damaged had been caused and the unit worked (ac controls, rear demister etc) bar the lights behind the lcd. i would assume that the diode was only to control lighting and didnt harm anything else i got the unit back from the electronics repair shop and all is well (to a point). The lights are back on and ac controls are working. im still paranoid as i beleive the repairer just put in any zener diode he could find and admitted asking chatgpt if its compatible   i do however have another issue... sometimes when i turn the ignition on, the climate control unit now goes through a diagnostics procedure which normally occurs when you disconnect and reconnect but this may be due to the below   to top everything off, and feel free to shoot me as im just about to do it myself anyway, while i was checking the newly repaired board by plugging in the climate control unit bare without the housing, i believe i may have shorted it on the headunit surround. Climate control unit still works but now the keyless entry doesnt work along with the dome light not turning on when you open the door. to add to this tricky situation, when you start the car and remove the key ( i have a turbo timer so car remains on) the keyless entry works. the dome light also works when you switch to the on position. fuses were checked and all ok ive deduced that the short somehow has messed with the smart entry control module as that is what controls the keyless entry and dome light on door opening   you guys wouldnt happen to have any experience with that topic lmao... im only laughing as its all i can do right now my self diagnosed adhd always gets me in a situation as i have no patience and want to get everything done in shortest amount of time as possible often ignoring crucial steps such as disconnecting battery when stuffing around with electronics or even placing a simple rag over the metallic headunit surround when placing a live pcb board on top of it   FML
    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
