I just recently got a '93 r32 gts4 skyline and I got this part with the car (uninstalled).

I was just wondering how to install it back on and if possible, if I can replace the BOV to a newer one or something?

Can anyone tell me where to install this and tell me some newer style bov's that will be compatible with the setup.

(At the moment i think it's a plumb back)

Thanks peeps.

i wouldn't bother for 2 reasons.....

1) cop magnet.

2) no performance value what so ever.

nothing wrong with keeping the factory one on and you pretty much get the bov noise when you put a pod filter on but i would recommend a pod box and cold air induction if you go that way.

Throw that out mate.

Its an unknown brand / make, its installed before the intercooler, and those return lines are clearly a 30 second job in the backyard.

No wonder its not installed, the number of issues running that piece of f**ked up experiment...God only knows.

Ideal setup: BOV installed on the crossover pipe, as close to the throttle body as possible,

pulmbed back intothe induction pipe, as close to the turbo as possible.

Okay, so stick to the stock bov yes?

And btw, can anyone post a pic showing me where the stock bov is on an rb20det and some good suggestions of aftermarket bov to buy with the single 'pshh' sound which will be compatible with the rb20det engine.

im kinda new with skyline engines

Anyone got some nice pics that can help?

Stock BOV is at the very top of the image in the middle. Can't miss it. Kind've looks like a duck wearing a trilby. Okay, maybe not, but it is bolted to a section of the crossover pipe (easy enough to remember as it is the intake pipe that crosses-over the engine).

If your car had a BOV fitted to a section of intercooler piping the stock crossover pipe may have been replaced with a new section of pipe that doesnt have the fitting for the stock BOV or in place of the stock BOV they may have simply blocked it off with a piece of metal.

Luckily both the crossover pipe and standard BOV should be easy to find and cheap to buy.

If you insist on an aftermarket BOV, get one that has an rb20det adaptor so it will bolt straight on. Look in the classifieds section as there used to always be ppl selling as-new BOVs for cheap prices as many people get sick of them after a week or two and dump them for peanuts. Also, you can ask them if it makes a PSH noise like you desire or more of a wapachang which it appears you are not.

LOL!

I just found out that the car was making stupid flutter sounds when i installed the pod filter... The reason was the stock BOV was 'blocked' off ;)

Now since i have the FMIC, Pod Filter, Turbo timer, Boost gauge already. Maybe I should buy a turbotech boost controller($30) and a turboback exhaust?

Unblock the BOV...that flutter sound is the turbo spinning up and slowly down repeatedly very quickly. Eventually you'll loose boost and find your turbo blades in your intercooler.

Fix that first - other mods later.

Yeah, i removed what was blocking the BOV, now its maing a nice single 'pshh' sound. Better?

    • Has equal chance of cleaning an AFM and f**king an AFM. I think you can work out what happened. When the Hitachi ECU sees the AFM die and goes into the associated limp mode, then it will start and run just fine, because it ignores the AFM and just runs on idle maps that will do what it needs to get it going. But there is no proper load signal, so that's about all it can do. My suggestion? If you don't want to go full aftermaket ECU, then get some R35 GTR AFM cards and some housings to put them in, in the stock location, and Nistune the ECU. Better to do a good upgrade than just replace shitty 40 year old tech with the same 40 year old tech.
    • So my car was recently having trouble starting on initial crank, I would need to feather the gas for it to start up but besides that it would start and run fine. So I clicked the idle air control valve (with throttle body cleaner) and cleaned the MAF sensors (with MAF cleaner). The start up issue was fixed and now the car turns over without the assist of the throttle, but the car is in limp mode and wont rev past 2.5k RPM. From what I understand the IACV would not put the car in limp mode, so I am to believe it is the MAF sensors, but it was running fine before and now I cant get it out of limp mode. I cleaned the MAF made sure the o rings were seated properly. Made sure the cables were plugged in properly, the cables also both read the same voltage. Does anybody know why this is or what could be causing this or how to get it out of limp mode?
    • Ooo I might actually come and bring the kids, however will leave the shit box home and take the daily
    • Thanks. Yeah I realised that there's no way I'd be able to cover the holes with the filler, it would just fall through. Thanks again @GTSBoy!
    • That was the reason I asked. If you were going to be fully bodge spec, then that type of filler is the extreme bodge way to fill a large gap. But seeing as you're going to use glass sheet, I would only use that fibre reinforced filler if there are places that need a "bit more" after you've finished laying in the sheet. Which, ideally, you wouldn't. You might use a blob of it underneath the sheet, if you need to provide some support from under to keep the level of your sheet repair up as high as it needs to be, to minimise the amount of filler you need on top. Even though you're going bodge spec here, using glass instead of metal, the same rules apply wrt not having half inch deep filler on the top of the repair. Thick filler always ends up shitting the bed earlier than thin filler.
