Only a criminal law effects stuff like warrants or rights to look through your car. It doesnt work on Traffic matters. You cant refuse them the right to look under your hood or in the car.

Ok, probably going a bit far here, but just wanting to know for my sake....

If you had : stock height (they measure it & all is good), good tyres, then they ask for the bonnet to be lifted...and you had : stock bov, stock air box...would they still be able to send u to VIS if they had nothing to write down??

Road traffic act gives coppers and regency inspectors cart blanc to do what they want. It states that they only have to believe that your car is defective (not know) and they can send you to regency, and there is no way you can stop them, cos if you obstruct them you are guilty of an offence.

Best part is, they have no liability if they get it wrong;)

As mentioned, basically you only have rights if you are a criminal, not if you are just driving along minding your own business.

Sorry to be one to give you the bad news, but thats the way the govt has seen fit to make the law.

Ofcourse they can send you to Regency if they suspect that your vehicle does not comply with road laws.

But they can not just search your vehicle UNLESS they have credible reason to believe that you have something concealed, like a weapon or narcotics. Its just the same as searching your house, they can't just come in and search your house. Something to do with civil liberties.

What is this? America or something?

Anyway, way off topic.

From the Road Traffic Act 1961:

(1a) A member of the police force or an inspector may direct the driver of a vehicle to stop the vehicle and may examine the vehicle where the vehicle has deficiencies or the member or inspector suspects on reasonable grounds that the vehicle has deficiencies.

(1b) Despite subsection (1a), a member of the police force or an inspector may direct the driver of a vehicle of a prescribed class to stop the vehicle and may examine the vehicle for the purposes of determining whether the vehicle has deficiencies (whether or not there is reason to suspect that the vehicle has deficiencies).

Not bad eh? rights? what rights, you have none.

Dean, maybe just raise your car a little bit so it isnt too low, also, ask regency what height the car can be (if you are lucky they will tell you it can be no less than 100mm) and ask for a cert to say your car can be xxx height.

If you are unlucky, you will be required to get an engineers report done, then have the car inspected.

The rule is 100mm, and have 2/3rds of the original suspension travel.

AFAIK, there is already an engineer who has certified Tiens for a skyline, and knows what the eyebrow height has to be. I think his name is Rory Thompson from memory, anyway he is in the phone book, if you give him a ring he may tell you what height is allowed - then if you go through Regency and they ask you about height, just tell them that he (rory) told you this was legal.

It might work, then you can ask politely for a cert to say the ride height is legal (Tim Ireland, the boss, told me that they will do this).

Give it a go, dont let the pricks get you down.

Either that, or go for a drive to queensland, get the rego transferred, cos they can do what the hell they want.

Then if you ever get pulled over, you just bought it last week;)

I "HEARD" this but i dunno how true it is but.....

Someone said you guys are gettin ex-tuners from WA workin for regency.

Just heard that along the grape vine but like i said i'm unsure of how true it is tho.

But if true that is scary because they will know 10 times more than those know it all's down there

I've heard a very similar story. Apparently these guys know exactly what they are looking for and they are going over the cars with a fine tooth comb for hidden stuff, pulling kick panels off to expose aftermarket computers etc etc.

Not sure if Regency used to be this thorough or not before....??!!!

Yeah they normally check my kick panel.

But they will even be opening up your ECU Box to check if you have a Aftermarket CPU

You know the kind that just go straight into your existing Box with out looking like its modded.

So if true i think ppl are gonna have 2 start gettin readdy for some super bending ove.... As if we didn't do enough already!

And just off the topic i heard another rumor that the new Import Laws are goin up to 17 years?!?!?!?!?

I'm happy my car will be worth alot more but i feel sorry for those ppl that want a 'Line

But they will even be opening up your ECU Box to check if you have a Aftermarket CPU

Now that is just a really ignorant thing to say dont you think? What else? They open up your head to see if the pistons are original? Open up the Cam covers to see if the camshafts are ADR approved? :bs!:

its bullshit how we get ****ed over cause we got turbo imports then they just drive past drug fu###d derros in there rusted out blowing smoke seatbeltless corolas its crap at least we maintain our cars and make them safer by upgrading brakes &suspension we deserve writes and we deserve police that should foucus on crime and real criminals instead of ****ing us all over cause its easyier than stopping a armed holdup

yeah, I was told from a good source that there was a cop that works here now who used to own a modded Skyline in WA - apparently he defected someone for (among other things) a Z32 AFM and PowerFC on a R33 GTS25T.

Look out for him, apparently he is a motorbike cop.....so do what I do, everytime I see a bike cop, take the next street and get as far away as possible!!!. Also does anyone know what the legal ride height is for a 32 GTSt?

Also, hows this, yesterday sitting at the traffic lights, a cop was next to me, having a good look at my car, and a old Magna pulled up on the other side of him. So there I was lined up at the traffic lights with a cop and a Magna, and it started to blow smoke all over the cops and my car and he didn't even look at it!!!!! What a asshole!!! There was a car that was clearly in violation of the law, blowing more smoke than I have seen from a car that is still drivable, but all the cop was intersted in was my Skyline. I really wanted him to pull me over just so I could have a go for not noticing the piece of smoke blowing rust bucket next to him (glad he let me go tho!!) Oh well, whinge over for the day, but just shows how much cops are focussing on our cars, not cars that SHOULD be defected for rust and emissions - the system/cops is total bullshit

What happens if everyone who is defected pulls the sticker off and refused to go for inspection? I'm sure if one or two did it they would take action, but if everyone who gets defected did the same thing where would they know where to start?

Maybe we as a group should approach a engineer and get all our cars certified as being roadworthy? I can see it now - SAU SA GROUP BUY - SKYLINE ENGINEER'S/ROADWORTHY CERTIFICATES!!!!!!

    • The sodium acetate, mixed with citric acid, doesn't actually buffer each other. Interestingly though, if you used Sodium Acetate, and acetic acid, THAT becomes a buffer solution. Additionally, a weak acid that can attack a metal, is still a weak acid that can attack a metal. If you don't neutralise it, and wash it off, it's going to be able to keep attacking. It works the same way when battery acid dries, get that stuff somewhere, and then it gets wet, and off it goes again breaking things down. There's a reason why people prefer a weak acid, and it's because they want TIME to be able to be on their side. IE, DIY guys are happy to leave some mild steel in vinegar for 24 hours to get mill scale off. However, if you want to do it chemically in industry, you grab the muriatic acid. If you want to do it quicker at home, go for the acetic acid if you don't want muriatic around. At the end of the day, look at the above thumbnail, as it proves what I said in the earlier post, you can clean that fuel tank up all you want with the solution, but the rust that has now been removed was once the metal of the fuel tank. So how thin in spots is your fuel tank getting? If the magazine on the left, is the actual same magazine as on the right, you'll notice it even introduces more holes... Well, rust removal in general actually does that. The fuel tank isn't very thick. So, I'll state again, look to replace the tank, replace the fuel hanger, and pump, work out how the rust and shit is making it past the fuel filter, and getting into the injectors. That is the real problem. If the fuel filter were doing its job, the injectors wouldn't be blocked.
    • Despite having minimal clothing because of the hot weather right now, I did have rubber gloves and safety glasses on just in-case for most of the time. Yes, I was scrubbing with my gloves on before, but brushing with a brush removes the remaining rust. To neutralize, I was thinking distilled water and baking soda, or do you think that would be overkill?
    • You can probably scrub the rust with a toothbrush or something. After you get the rust off flush well with water to neutralize and you will probably want to also use a fuel tank sealer to keep it from rusting again.
    • The sodium citrate solution is designed to buffer the citric acid to keep it from attacking metal quite so much, the guy that came up with that recipe did a ton of testing on how much metal loss occurs over time and it's nothing crazy unless you forget about it for months:
