Broken Transfercase! @ 7km/h

Broken transfer case chain... snapped and punched through the casing at 7 km/h.

Dose anyone have a breakdown parts diagram/picture of the transfer case?

Has anyone ever seen this? Are there any common faults to look for?

Car specs: 33 GTR- 860 odd bhp, stock box/case, 2.6 forged with a single billet precision turbo and supporting mods. Street tyres, some spirited driving and lots of dyno time (box number 3).

Any advice or the parts break down diagram would be great.

well..I've broken a transfer case chain too, but I've never heard of anyone else doing it.

In my case the xfer case had just been rebuilt, took it racing at targa and the 4wd slowly failed until the chain broke/smashed the box selector so I had to retire.

I assume that the clearences in the rbuild were incorrect causing some sort of bearing to fail and seizing the FWD portion of it, which in turn broke the chain next time I launched.

There are a couple of places around who can rebuild them, but I just chose to get a seoncd hand one for about $400 and not touch it, has been running fine for 2 years of racing since :happy:

Hey mate, the part number for the chain is 3315205U00. It's about 600 bucks new. I'm redoing a transfer case at the mo and there's probably a few more things you'll need to look at, but I reckon the hole in the case might be a issue. Def cheaper to get a second hand one for about 200- 400. If you want more info on the case internals and part numbers let me know.

AWD Dyno

Update: Car is getting a new plenum and individual tb... going for 900 at the wheels.

AWD dyno kills the attessa as you've just found out.

You need to run it in RWD mode on the dyno to prevent drivetrain issues. Sure it works for a short time but in the end they don't like it. I pull the fuse i the boot :rant:

      I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.

      Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?

      This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.
