Hey guys, I have an R32 GTS4 and i recently blew my little RB20DET sky high =P oops. (shitty oil pumps i say)

I'm wanting to get a new engine back in there, but obviously don't want to waste money on another RB20.

I was thinking of putting in an RB25DET manual out of a Stagea (or convert to manual if needed), but I was thinking was IS the difference between an RB25DET RWD engine and a AWD one? really?

From wot ive gathered it the sump studs in different places, but i could always drill that out and modify so perhaps a RWD RB25DET could b bolted straight in with sump modification into my GTS4, perhaps by modifying my RB20 factory sump or? Has anyone done this or heard about it?

It's obviously cheaper n easier to source a RWD RB25DET than one out of a generally newer Stagea, that are generally autos too...

If anyone could clear this up for me conclusively I will be extremely grateful!!!! =P

RWD RB25DET into GTS4 can it be done? I will do all the work myself with a mate including the engine swap. proficient skills. doable?

Thanks in advance.

Have a sweet one guys! =P

stag motors are different to 33 25s, i got burned..

pick ups are different

They work as a straight swap into a R32 GTS4. Mine cost me $3800, but that was 5 years ago, before Stageas were common. The majority will be autos, but it's relatively easy to convert them to manual (if you need to).

The general concensus appears to be that you can't fit a AWD sump to a RWD block. It would be just as cheap (and easy) to get a Stagea engine in the first place.

yep thats it, i got mine from just crap, $1100, they had heaps just sitting there

Cheers guys!

I was working on the assumption i'd be paying around $2-3k for a stagea 25. Hence why I was like i can grab a rwd RB25 cheap as n have the tools n drill to actually easily modify the sump piece of piss =P But if i can grab a RB25DET out of a stagea, even if auto n convert n knock that in from just crap or something that would b sweet @ the prices u guys r talking! - If stagea 25 cheap enough n preferably manual (bit of a b!tch to find) il get that obviously. but if they're all autos everywhere n no manual boxes and neo's il prob just mod the AWD RB20 sump as ive found out it's only the sump studs, so for me it's cheap as n quick to do as well =P

Thanks again guys, have a tip top weekend!

Sounds like the easiest way is to use the stagea awd rb25

There is a turbo one on ebay for sale for a while for $1150. They do not get much cheaper than that. :P

cheers for the heads up mate. But i never do Ebay for stuff like that =P

i know this is an old thread but i am thinking of doing the same thing, rb25det RWD motor into an r32gts-4..

what ended up happening (topic starter)? can u modify the sump etc?? could u use an rb26dett sump?? or find an rb25det (stag motor) and use the sump off it?

guys?

You can use an adaptor, this seems to cost money, but to me I'd rather build from a bare all wheel drive block, wheich may well proce out at less than adaptor prices. Intuitively, I think engineering is better without an adaptor, but RB30/25 into awd this is the only way. I like KISS principle.

    • Nope.    Grab a varex and turn it down as you get close to home, win win?
    • So, I've had my V36 for about a month now and have already copped an "excessive exhaust noise" notification from QLD TMR, reported by someone in my local area. It's a twin as per the original, and can have a bit of a throaty note to it when idling cold 😄 and if I do get up it a bit, it can be noisy, but it did pass a roadworthy inspection before sale, so.... ... but in the interest of being a good neighbour, I do want to quieten it down a bit. Is anyone here running a quiet aftermarket cat-back on their V36 or 370Z? And the big, bold question: does an aftermarket cat-back really make much of a performance difference on these cars?
    • The wiring diagram for the R33 RB25 is freely available, and is essentially the same same as most other RBs (just with differences as to which pin # does which job). To get the ECU to power up, you just need to provide power to the ECCS relay, and have the other power feeds that come in from the top left of the wiring diagram (wrt the ECU) that give perma power to the fuel pump relay, the ECU itself, etc etc, all connected. When you put power on all these it will just come to life. It's pretty clear from the diagram what needs to happen. Just follow the lines from the 12V + supply stuff in the top left over towards the ECU. I've even posted snips of such diagrams (not for vanilla 25, I think for Neo and 26) to various threads here in the last few months, talking about what it takes to get the fuel pump and FPCM up and going. Search these up and they will help get you started on doing the same with the vanilla 25 diagram. Hell, for all I know, I've done the same with that one in years past and have forgotten.
    • Yep...so unless someone posts up the answer you will need to probe from the ECU connector to the dash plug with a multi meter in continuity mode to trace the wires.  Note the ECU has multiple - and + (and across different key settings - Battery, IGN and Start) and most likely the power is fed from the connector(s) that is normally near the left hand headlight.
    • Thanks Duncan, I am actually just trying to get the Rb turning and running with the RB25DET S2 original loom itself  I am just trying to get it going outside the body and not thinking about the S15 or trying to match anything to the S15 loom at all I am only trying to see if anyone has done this and what pin they found to be the ignition trigger and ECU+/- on the dash connector, that's about it. Thanks
