Ok, I've noticed a few people questioning the worth of the aftermarket warranties that most people have when they buy imports.

This week, the Drivers power window in my NM35 stopped working. Since I have cover to the value of $300 on power windows (which I know won't cover the job, but is better than nothing) I elected to use it.

The experience so far:

Rang their number on sunday to enquire about repair, automated answering service announces office hours (9am -5pm mon -fri) and a reccomendation to call during office hours. Not very surprising.

Rang their after hour "emergency hotline number" this is basically roadservice. Spoke to a helpful mechanic who told me that there wasn't anything he could do, as he wasn't able to make auto electrical repairs; fair enough, he's set up for changing flat tyres, jump starting flat batteries and empty fuel tanks.

Rang office at 9am, told them my issue, referred me to an authorised repairer in my area (within 5 km of my house).

Rang workshop, arranged to drop car off to have window looked at. Calling out of the blue, I felt this was good service; the workshop owner knew that I needed SOME assistance immediately, at least get the window up so I can secure the car.

Called him back at 2:30, car is ready to pick up, he's removed the buggered regulator mech, and fixed the window in position for the time being. I can now secure the car.

Told me he will be getting a price for replacement part, contacting warranty company, so we can proceed with repair.

Got in the car , noticed a small scratch in my window tint, but trim is on, not damaged and window doesn't rattle or anything.

I'm going to let the scratch in the tint go until the repair is complete, giving the workshop an opportunity to come clean before I go any further.

Will update as things continue.

Sounds like decent service to me (bar the tint scratch).

I wish I had that kind of speedy service when my turbo died!

Will be interested to see how it ends up.

Yeah, fairly happy so far, definitely saved my bacon today!

As for the scratch, it's only $40 to re-tint, so hopefully they'll come to the party.

We'll see how things progress...

I have the same warranty service.... so far they have replaced.......

As I posted in Stooge007's thread some time ago... be careful with warranty companys though and who you speak to...

Yes I had coilpacks and few bits and peices changed with 24/7 Roadside Warranty and had no hassles. Once the transmission went in my Stagea i rang 24/7 Roadside and they told me to take the car to a transmission specialist and get a quote for the repairs. I asked the young girl if it was ok to remove the tansmission myself at the car is pretty much undriveable to which she said was fine. So I proceeded to remove the transmission, put it in the back of a mates ute and off to the transmission repairer it went.

Next time I spoke to 24/7 Roadside they pretty much told me they would not be covering any cost of the transmission as the car is not at the transmission specialist's workshop and the transmission wasnt removed by a professional. They admitted i was given false information from one of their trainee staff members but I had broken the agreement. In the end it wasn't worth contacting my solictor, waiting for the case to be heard and all the court fee's so coughed up the $2200 for repairs which i wasn't to happy about.

I had a similar discussion with the roadside assistance mechanic on sunday. Basically if I did anything at all to rectify or correct the situation, I wouldn't be covered at all.

I wasn't really surprised, but it was a bit of a pain not being able to secure the car in the meantime.

Mechanic called me today to comfirm vin/chassis number to order parts, so we might be underway!

Recieved a call today from 24/7 Roadside today.

Mechanic has submitted quote for repairs, $500 for new window motor, $250 for new window regulator, $150 in labour. Total $900. Have seen regulator mechanism, tight as all hell, definitely stuffed. I'd rather replace it than try to repair, then have it fail and have to replace it anyway.

So as it stands, with $300 of warranty cover, I'll end up $150 better off than if I'd bought the parts, and done it myself. And presumably the new parts will be warranted against failure for a time.

Not a huge win, but a win nonetheless. On the upside, the warranty company have been very easy to deal with and quick to respond. Also showed the scratch in the tint to the mechanic today, he apologised profusely and was happy to pay for the window to be re-tinted.

Now I just have to wait 2 weeks for parts to arrive...

Ok, final update, Parts came in on Monday, took the car down this morning, within 2 hours, the car was finished, ready to pick up. Works perfectly, and I'm now missing a rattle that was annoying me too! Window isn't re-tinted yet but have booked in at the window tinter's (same guys who did the fronts in 20% for me) Mechanic had already spoken to them and teed it up!

So, I'm quite happy with the 24/7 Warranty service, and if anyone in Penrith has cause to deal with Aaron from Angus Mechanical Repairs, his work is quite good, he's honest and easy to deal with.

Today I took my car for it first service since I bought it, and was informed that both drive shafts needed replacing as they are worn.

I then quickly checked my 24/7 warranty to see if they are covered, while reading I noticed it said worn parts will not be covered.

Although CV joint are covered, how exactly do I clam on this if my cv joints are worn??? Do I need to wait til they completely fail, I rang

24/7 but surprise surprise they were not willing to give me any advice simply saying worn parts are not covered. Luckly they had not

yet processed my warranty so I have time to re-group before speaking to them officially.

Any advice on this is greatly appreciated.

How long since you purchased your car? If it's under 3 months, the dealer you bought through, will be responsible for the repairs.

Make sure you dont say they are worn... they wont replace worn parts... broken parts yes... so just get the mech to say there broken...

    • Did this end up working? Did you take some pictures?
    • And finally, the front lower mount. It was doubly weird. Firstly, the lower mount is held in with a bracket that has 3 bolts (it also acts as the steering lock stop), and then a nut on the shock lower mount itself. So, remove the 3x 14mm head bolts , then the 17mm nut that holds the shock in. From there, you can't actually remove the shock from the lower mount bolt (took me a while to work that out....) Sadly I don't have a pic of the other side, but the swaybar mounts to the same bolt that holds the shock in. You need to push that swaybar mount/bolt back so the shock can be pulled out past the lower control arm.  In this pic you can see the bolt partly pushed back, but it had to go further than that to release the shock. Once the shock is out, putting the new one in is "reverse of disassembly". Put the top of the shock through at least one hole and put a nut on loosely to hold it in place. Put the lower end in place and push the swaybar mount / shock bolt back in place, then loosely attach the other 2 top nuts. Bolt the bracket back in place with the 14mm head bolts and finally put the nut onto the lower bolt. Done....you have new suspension on your v37!
    • And now to the front.  No pics of the 3 nuts holding the front struts on, they are easy to spot. Undo 2 and leave the closest one on loosely. Underneath we have to deal with the wiring again, but this time its worse because the plug is behind the guard liner. You'll have to decide how much of the guard liner to remove, I undid the lower liner's top, inside and lower clips, but didn't pull it full off the guard. Same issue undoing the plug as at the rear, you need to firmly push the release clip from below while equally firmly gripping the plug body and pulling it out of  the socket. I used my fancy electrical disconnect pliers to get in there There is also one clip for the wiring, unlike at the rear I could not get behind it so just had to lever it up and out.....not in great condition to re-use in future.
    • Onto the rear lower shock mount. It's worth starting with a decent degrease to remove 10+ years of road grime, and perhaps also spray a penetrating oil on the shock lower nut. Don't forget to include the shock wiring and plug in the clean.... Deal with the wiring first; you need to release 2 clips where the wiring goes into the bracket (use long nose pliers behind the bracket to compress the clip so you can reuse it), and the rubber mount slides out, then release the plug.  I found it very hard to unplug, from underneath you can compress the tab with a screwdriver or similar, and gently but firmly pull the plug out of the socket (regular pliers may help but don't put too much pressure on the plastic. The lower mount is straightforward, 17mm nut and you can pull the shock out. As I wasn't putting a standard shock back in, I gave the car side wiring socket a generous gob of dialectric grease to keep crap out in the future. Putting the new shock in is straightforward, feed it into at least 1 of the bolt holes at the top and reach around to put a nut on it to hold it up. Then put on the other 2 top nuts loosely and put the shock onto the lower mounting bolt (you may need to lift the hub a little if the new shock is shorter). Tighten the lower nut and 3 upper nuts and you are done. In my case the BC Racing shocks came assembled for the fronts, but the rears needed to re-use the factory strut tops. For that you need spring compressors to take the pressure off the top nut (they are compressed enough when the spring can move between the top and bottom spring seats. Then a 17mm ring spanner to undo the nut while using an 8mm open spanner to stop the shaft turning (or, if you are really lucky you might get it off with a rattle gun).
    • You will now be able to lift the parcel shelf trim enough to get to the shock cover bolts; if you need to full remove the parcel shelf trim for some reason you also remove the escutcheons around the rear seat release and you will have to unplug the high stop light wiring from the boot. Next up is removal of the bracket; 6 nuts and a bolt Good news, you've finally got to the strut top! Remove the dust cover and the 3 shock mount nuts (perhaps leave 1 on lightly for now....) Same on the other side, but easier now you've done it all before
