Losing Points From Nsw? But Have Vic Licence

i got done for driving 15k over the limit in NSW Today.

the coppa sed it was up 2 the RTA if i lose my points or not..?

i have a vic licence..

how does it work..

Not anymore, the state licensing systems are now all linked together, so getting done in one state automatically applies the points to your license, no matter where you live, unlike the good old days where I had a Vic and WA license, due to having residences in both states, it's amazing how many tickets you could get out of mainly due to the copper not wanting the hassle of ticketing a license from interstate back then.

up until at least 5 months ago i can tell you for a fact they are not linked.

It was a fine only back in Apr/May when my best mate copped one in NSW on a Vic license.

I'd be keen to know this too. As i might have acquired a fine in NSW, and will they chase me for it in VIC.

God knows I CBF'd to drive in Sydney again....what a stupid city that is

I got a fine in SA but the points didn't carry over to my Victorian license.

As my best mate is in the Navy, i know a fair few of those guys.

Whatever state they are based in, they get a licence in another state, no points to be taken. It's been working for them for the past 10 years.

Since you posted this on the 21st and said you got done today that makes it a Saturday and its double demerit on the weekends in NSW..

well my experiences from living in a border region are:

You used to be able to get both a Victorian AND NSW licence, effectively giving you double the points. IIRC, if you lost it in one state you'd just switch them over and continue on your way. I am reasonably sure that they have closed this one loophole.

Over the course of my P's I gathered 6 points from the BS revenue raising civvy camera cars in VIC, none of the points carried over.

My sister's BF is licenced in Vic, and got done in NSW for drink driving - I have seen the letter from Vicroads as well as a notice from NSW police saying that he is fine to drive in VIC but isn't allowed to in NSW. This was about 3 months ago too, so obviously its not all working in cohesion yet.

The only way I know you can potentially do it is to get a licence in another state at the same time as you have your Vic one and have them applied to that. e.g. At uni in QLD, get a QLD licence and get caught in QLD, apply points to QLD licence, which leaves your Vic one clean. They have to allocate to a licence from my experience. The only thing I have seen them reneg on is from a fixed camera and is the fine portion if you are living overseas (e.g. caught speeding with a fixed camera while back in Oz on holiday from overseas. They still want a licence to allocate points to but certainly a couple of years back didnt pursue the $$)

ive had points taken from vic when i had my nsw licence, but when i had my vic licence i got a fine and points lost in vic 18 months ago, changed it to nsw then back to vic within 3 months n have never copped anything from it. i got a letter from vicroads saying how good of a driver ive been not 2 have lost points within 2 or 3 yrs or some crap.

also have known people to have lost their vic licence, only to transfer it to nsw n get away with it.

i guess in reality it comes down to the cop putting the fines through the system?

I know a lot of vic truck drivers get away with it by not paying the fine you get in nsw, once you pay it then the points come off, only down side is that if you get pulled over in nsw and have racked up too many unpaid fines they will send you back to the border (truck drivers any way).

I got a fine in a mates car in perth about 5 or so years ago, when i wrote down my license number i changed 2 of them, about a month later i got a call from a cop over there saying that the number was wrong and he needed my license number again, after i came to the conclusion that it wasnt my mate trying to stir me up i gave him my license number, with 2 of the other numbers changed, never heard about it again.
