noticed some black/grey smoke come from my exhaust today under heavy acceleration from first to second.

what could this problem be. anything i can check before sending it to the mechanic?

and if so, is it an easy enough job to fix myself or with a mate.

cheers.

I suggest you switch your car from camels to a mild brand, preferably with menthol

previous owner told me it is running rich, which i have noticed aswel. cheers for the help, just worrying as first turbo ive had

best serious advice i can give, is to take it to a qualified tuner to check your o2 sensors, the afm ratios reported by an external sensor, and then give the car a good tune up...

i know of many places north of the city that can help you

who do you reccomend dohmar?

road and track dyno services in 19 Thomas St, Cavan (8344 8930)

They have extensive experience with all types of motorsport, and I personally dont trust anyone except these guys...

while boostworx is around the corner, i'll still be going to these blokes, no disrespect to bw tho (ive never been a customer)

it's just running rich like chad said, you can take it to some one to check your AFR's (Not AFMR's)but there is nothing they can do about it anyway because you can't tune anything with the standard ECU, all they can do is play with your timing.

Just take it to anyplace that has a dyno and get them to run it up to check the AFR's get the print out and post it up here and we'll go from there.

Shop around because you shouldn't be paying more than $80 for a few quick runs, otherwise wait till someone is holding a dyno day and do it then.

I only use & recommend Boostworx

new years they are moving to cavan from pasadena

Awesome! Closer to me. :)

I'd been a customer of theirs since back in the day Craig ran Mad Dat from there ... when I sold my house down south and moved to the Regency area, it was just too far to travel to get there. Thats good news ... for me anyway :)

burning black is too rich, the grey is more water in tailpipe MOST of the time.

if you car is cold when you boot it the mixture will be really black, grey

your O2 sensor is prob dirty, and the intake plenum is prob caked with carbon as well.

spark plugs, otherwise it sounds normal for a turbo car.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
