Hi,

I used to live in Sydney before moving to Canberra (no, not a joke).. and I used to take my old Skyline to a place in Annandale (from memory) on Albion Street... The guy specialised in Skylines, and was quite cheap and did good work. He also had a very old Skyline from the 70's that he was restoring - quite a nicce piece of machinery.

Well I am back in Sydney for a few weeks and my car needs to have its coil pack replaced and for the life of me I can't remember this workshops name. Yellowpages isn't giving me names that I am familiar with, and I am certain this mechanic was recommended from this forum.

Any help lads?

Thanks

G.

Yeah that was Nathan from Grey Imports - but he shut up shop about 18 months and escaped sydney.

Most shops aren't open atm but might be from next week, whereabouts in sydney are you?

Ahh good for him, bad for me!

I'm based on the Northern Beaches with the intent to head back to Canberra on Sunday... so I'm struggling to find someone open over the next few days to do some work on it so that I can drive it home. the alternative is to try and limp it home however that wont be fun - I'll be pulling over every few minutes. God help me getting up a hill on the Hume Hwy..

So if anyone knows of a reliable mechanic that's open that can do a relatively simple job of a coil pack please do let me know, otherwise I'm up for a $1,000 tow back to Canberra..

do you already have the coil packs? if so very easy job (I can give you a hand one night this week if you are stuck).

If you don't have the coil packs - what model are they for? Also you should probably do plugs and their gaps at the same time.

any idea where to source parts at short notice?

appreciate the advice / offer..

Thats so nice of you to offer your assistance like that!

If you can get your hands on the coils they are dead easy to change.

Especially easier on an RB26 as you don't have to fight with the intake plumbing which goes over the engine on an RB25...

Thanks for everyones advice and offers of assistance so far.

Next question - I'm on a hunt for coil packs. anyone have any advice on where to source from? Google isn't pulling any decent results other than posts from Skylines Australia and Wreckers that don't have them, so any advice on this would be great.

Planning on grabbing the coil packs tomorrow morning and attempting to install myself... just need to find the bloody things.

Cheers,

G.

    • Yes, I know🙄 but the sequential is not in my budget... don't want to reduce power neither, so looks like I'm stuck in the rabbit hole🤣
    • You’ll be very upset when you bust that too not to mention the gearing totally sucks. Don’t do it.

    • So.... the K&N air box thingo was too big, ended up gifting it to a mate, well, by gifting it he actually supplied food and beer at the pub,  which was nice, as it will not sit on a shelf in the garage for the next 10 years I did trim up some of the existing stuff to neaten it all up and gave it some wrinkle paint, unfortunately it currently has a used and abused mish mash of different types of hose clamps, 4 big fat T bolt type (shit), and a few normal clamps of vairing sizes and brands, but..... only until the 6 constant tension black worm clamps that I ordered from EFI solutions turn up next week Currently the current hose clamps are triggering me hard, LOL Is this the final version, probably not, I really want just 2 silicone pieces, a straight bit of silicone from the filter to the MAF is easy and will happen as soon as I head into Just Jap tomorrow, the problematic part is a 30° silicone bend from the MAF to the TB that I can connect the engine breather from the head, I found that there are bulk head fittings for boat bilge pumps that should work, but until I can get a 30° silicone bend the alloy pipe, and the 11ty thousand hose clamps, are there for the foreseeable future 4 hose clamps are golden, 6 are grudgingly acceptable, the 8 currently holding it all together is just taking the piss    I've also ordered 60 more retaining wall blocks for the front yard, I mis-gonculated the height that was required to get above the base of the Photinia's (red robin's) that are the hedge behind the front fence, currently it is 2 blocks high, and about 1/2 a block short, so going 3 blocks high will be above the base of the red robin's, and allow some room for mulch
    • It is the stock air box with the panel filter. Everything else is stock except the exhaust at this point, as I also went back to the cleaned 270cc injectors. I will check the RPM when the IACV is unplugged and report back.
