ANNUAL BEN SIMPSON MEMORIAL CRUISE

On the 1st Feb 2010 it will be 5yrs since we lost our much loved Ben. To celebrate his life and membership of this forum we hold an annual memorial cruise, we usually raise money for an associated charity. This year have planned it differently, we will NOT be collecting/asking for donations (the cruise maps will be provided free).

If you have lost a someone recently (no matter how they died) and wish to cruise in their honour please buy a wide ribbon in their favourite colour, write their name on it & attach it to your windscreen wiper.

As this event is always held very close to the anniversary of Ben leaving us it is a difficult time & we ask you to respect our wishes in relation to this cruise/event.

1.It will be a relatively short (approx 1hr) leisurely paced cruise, it will pass across the hills face but there will be no intense windy/slider type roads.

2.There will be only one cruise group, slowest & fastest all in the same group.

3.If your intention was to come & slide....stay home.

4.It your car is currently defected & by reasons of the defect unable to be driven, don't bring it.

5.As we will not be collecting any $$ it will not be classified as a "charity cruise", therefore I can not write letters for permits

ALL types of cars and drivers are most welcome.

The cruise will be concluding at a GO KART track where Softy will be accepting challengers in the HT.net Grand Prix. This is where you can display your driving "skills" - for those who want to go karting it will cost a max of $25 for 15 laps (10mins).

Come and join us remember those who have left this world long before their time.

DATE: SAT 30TH JANUARY 2010

TIME: 6PM MEET for a 7PM CRUISE START

WHERE: CNR GOLDEN GROVE ROAD & JACK HIGH LANE RIDGEHAVEN

(in the currently closed swimming centre car park)

I might come along if there's not too many hardcore drifters like the last cruise...

...if you read the origional post carefully you will find the answer to your question....not sure any of the above will be interested in this cruise, do you ?

OLD Mark

if i can get a friend to drive my car (as i dont have a license :@) ill be there!

i can drive for ya Lewis :(

should be a good day....will try and make it out there like all the other years

  • 2 weeks later...

KARTING:If you are planning to go karting (at the end of the cruise) please chuck a pair of closed toe shoes & sensible clothing in your car...if you have a full face helmet, bring that too.

ON THE CRUISE:As you are now aware, this year we have invited everyone who has lost someone close to them to tie a ribbon on their car and cruise in that persons honour.... if they wish.

2 weeks ago there was a horrific accident near Wlliamstown, which claimed 4 lives incl 3 very young kids (Logan Inglis aged 7, Claudia Inglis aged 10 their mother Melania Inglis aged 40 and family friend Georgia Pearce aged 10)....for reasons that will be made clear on the cruise, they now have very special places in our hearts.

Old Jules and I will display an additional 4 coloured ribbons on our R32 (you may wish to do the same, any 4 ribbons together...NO obligation)

Hope you can join us.

OLD Jules & Mark

Thanks for the cruise last night Mark. Good to meet you and have that quick chat. :P

Forgot to tie ribbons to my car, but I cruised for my long lost friend Sonia Warne, and my recently deceased cousin Tracey Brady on New Years Day 2010. Both will be missed.

My partner Tracy also attended the cruise with me. She was touched by your cruise, which brought back memories of her close friend who died by suicide many years ago.

Thanks.

Thanks for this, we are glad it meant so much to you too. OLD Jules & I are going to make this an important part of the Annual BSMemorial Cruise, as you now know I have been tragically touched once again....it meant a lot to a lot of people. The respect shown during the cruise was awesome. Doesnt hurt any of us to remember and reflect.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
