I've gone for a more standard set up on my car with smaller turbos and back to standard cam shafts etc, I have a Triple plate clutch which I now feel is not needed, this car will see no track work or nights at Calder, Im just after a daily driver now that will be more suited to day time traffic and feel like a standard car.

The car will be running around 350 to 360rwkw with the final tune, I've been told a twin plate organic clutch may suit my needs, I was wondering if anyone was using such a clutch and how they find it, any comments would be of interest, Cheers Guys.....

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think if you spend just a couple of hundred dollars more than what you pay for an exedy or whatever organic twin plate clutch, you can/should get a Nismo Coppermix Twin plate clutch.

It has a stock clutch pedal feel and it makes your car very drivable whilst being able to hold whatever power you might have in future if you get bored of your current power again. As a daily driver, you wouldn't want to be stuck in a jam with a heavy twin plate clutch.

I've looked at the coppermix and yes a more friendly clutch but still with some bite, they still rattle, having had an xtreme twin plate and now a exedy triple plate, Im over it, Im hoping the organics will have less noise but I expect a much better feel as Melbourne's traffic is pretty bad now, the box is coming out soon so it's a good time to do the clutch............I've just got off the phone from Jim Berry for two hours, had a good talk about his single plate up grade with a lower clamp pressure that may suit my needs, he said it will have the slip I need to take off at the traffic lights as well as the grip in the clutch when needed, the twin plate organic will still rattle so its sounding like the Jim Berry clutch maybe a good clutch to consider, easy take offs are important to me and it would just top the car off is this was the case, any comments would be of help.

Fark if you could hear a "rattle" from the Nismo Coppermix clutch, your hearing must be super sensitive. Never heard mine rattle and i really love the sound of a rattly clutch.

I've heard good and bad things about the Jim Berry clutches. Never going to be as good or as comfortable to drive as a Nismo Coppermix though

Point taken, that's why im doing a bit of research, I've never heard one operate before so I wouldn't know, the topic as been done to death for some but the feed back has been helpful, the clutch has been the hardest decision I have had to make so far and it gives me something to mull over.

Thanks for the comments.

My mate smashed two of those Jim Berry clutches in a matter of a month. He is making a fair bit of power though.

Hey mate, why don't you give Racepace a call for one of their custom single plate clutches. It will hold your power and are very street friendly, smooth and quiet. They are local aswell so it's easier, i'v got one in my car so if you want to try it out before you make any decisions let me know and we can meet up. They open next week on Monday I think.

Cheers

i have the beefiest Jim Berry in mine - compared to a stock GTT clutch it's definitely firmer but not noticeable now and i don't think any issues in traffic.

not sure if there is a real need to blow massive money on Jap items when you have 3 good clutch builders here in oz for less money. Jim Berry, NPC and Direct Clutch - i'd go either JB/NPC personally.

Thanks guys, since Ive spent $3g on a clutch already, Im thinking I wish I had of brought a Nismo Coppermix and that would have been the end of that one, I have spoken to both Ben from Race Pace and Simon from Nizpro who put me on to the idea of an organic clutch. (hard to beat for feel)

Don't get me wrong, I still think the Exedy triple plate is a great clutch (a bit to much grip for me) but it smash 3rd gear on a STD box the very first time I stuck the boot into it, and that was on low tune.

The box is coming out with in days, PPG is supplying a replacement upgraded 1st gear so was thinking clutch change now! I think I've got time to wait for Nizpro or Race Pace to open before the box goes back in so I will be chatting with them very soon, I still like the Jim Berry but I must be getting old cause Im favoring the organic clutch.

Hey Miran, I would love to give your clutch a try, PM me and I'll give you a call.

Thanks to all that helped!

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
