Hey all,

I've been eyeing off both W34 and M35 Stageas for some time now (18+ months), and I think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and get an M35 - I havent decided if I'll go with a private sale or from a dealer, however, either way I'd like an independent set of eyes to look over the internals. My parents spoke to our local mechanic some time ago about my interest in Stageas and apparently his words were "Why would you bother?" - as a result I dont know if they're going to be the best people to look at it! Does anyone in Adelaide have some suggestions as to who I should speak to about getting an M35 inspected to ensure I'm not buying a lemon? :)

Cheers!

might be best to ask a stagea owner to come along with you to look at the car

stagea = best wagon you could possibly buy

saying "why bother", Id be looking for a different tuner tbh :)

Cheers for the tip :) I drove a couple of M35s yesterday, and Im tending to agree with you on the 'best wagon you can buy' point - I loved 'em.

I did some digging back through topics here, and found a mention of http://www.motacheck.net being used by a guy in Perth to check some out. Would anyone else recommend them?

i had my stagea RAA inspected, although they had no clue what they were looking at,they can definately tell you faults or things that need repairing.the fella who inspected mine even noticed it didnt have a ciggie lighter and made a point of telling me!plus they saved me a few dollars in the final sale price...(some of you know what im talking about)

id get any car im potentially buying inspected, private or dealer sale.if they say no to a 3rd party inspecting the vehicle, then walk away mate, they maybe hiding something...

I work at RAA and have had several cars inspected by them. They do a really thorough job and are pretty flexible with where and when they can do it for you.

Well worth the price!

Well back when I was looking at a S13 nissan silvia for my first car, my boss's partner who worked in insurance reckoned they were "more trouble than they're worth" and not to bother with one...

I went ahead anyway after finding a good(ish) quote and since then have been hooked on nissan imports. I owned that one for 4 years, then a turbo one, then a s2 stagea, and now a M35. I did own a '98 pulsar SSS as well but it was rubbish compared to the imports. The aussie delivered nissans are nothing compared to the JDM ones. This is why they're so underrated. Most people think of nissan as pulsar, tiida and maxima... (this also shows when people talk down the GTR just because its a nissan - they're just not aware of nissan's motorsport pedigree).

On topic, I did use motacheck (i think it was them) to get my s2 stagea inspected and they weren't too bad. They wont be able to tell you how your stagea compares to any other stagea etc. or whether it should ride differently etc. but they will be able to point out oil leaks, shudders, suspension issues, brakes issues and anything electrical thats not working.

I've heard that RAA are very thorough as well...so all the best with it. :)

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
