going back to that exhaust manifold. some might not think its worth $9k... and it probably isnt really. but where else could you get someone to make a single piece manifold like that with that level of craftsmanship and quality? i would say that maybe half that cost would be the most i would pay but then it comes back to the whole thing where it is a one off item. unfortunately that means that there is no real way to value this and its up to hooks and any potential buyers to work out what this is worth to them because this isnt going to pop up again any time soon.

a few years ago i worked for a company called DHS, they design and make the stretches etc for NSW ambulances as well as build the ambulances on site.

my point being.. there was so much development that went into making jigs for parts that your average joe blog would never pay any attention to. and this development isnt cheap, for what looks like a bunch of plates, bolts and nuts bolted together (albeit a very nice bunch of plates bolts and nuts) was well over 10k... i'd happily believe 9k was invested in developing the original GMS manifold.

i could go on but im hoping most here are educated enough to know where those costs go..

the key word here being "development" its never cheap, regardless of the whats trying to be achieved.

on topic, i would happily hand over a large sum of cash for an original GMS motor, they sound incredible, and it would fit nicely into my cefiro

....infact id prefer it over a 26 and defnitely over a 25..

@ R31Gun......Pretty sure that was Linton's way of get a response to Ash from me......you know those kids that used to stand behind the big kids in kindergarden shit stirring so they can get a fight started......same sort of thing......but some of us grew out of it!

yes it was... im a smart arse, im sorry for trying to keep this thread somewhat light hearted.

@Linton....didn't know there were sides....shit this sounds like I'm back at pre school.....I am also with Ash and others on some of what they say....shit even you!.....and I don't care how long I have know them.....nor do I really care if they know me or not.

no there are no sides... and it didnt matter who knew who, r31gun made that comment like it was important

Just to straighten things out....as you seem to have dropped a couple of silly misplaced comments in. e.g. Pin drop(I did smirk and mumble to myself shit stirrer though), weddings.....

im glad that you saw them as silly comments as thats all they are.

If you want to go and stir people into response's go then get some ball's and go the whole hog e.g. Tell you wife/girlfriend that she's got a fat arse while she's in the middle of her PMS cycle. :) ......make sure you video it for posting on youtube or Police evidence(Oh....not having a go a your wife/GF either as I have never seen her)

nooooooo bingo.... are you mad??

I have been an Industrial Designer on a CAD for 15 years and at no time have I ever been able to do or see someone else rack up a part design similar to the exhaust we are talking about in 30 minutes.....not even a day.....not to mention my hourly cost which I can tell you now is not cheap! I am sure HKS can make em.....how much though? For a one off?

is that your hourly rate that you get paid?? or the hourly rate your company charges you out at??

Wedding's and cars have nothing in common other than most of us will loose our cars as soon as the wedding happens......P.S. maybe you should not type you thoughts in future.

*insert thought here*

The $200(or has it now gone up to $1,500) of metal you have estimated may be correct.....but the hours your going to put into em is where the cost is......are you going to garrentee these will be able to glow red for six's hours without falling apart. If you are you should be working for a major motor sporting team as you are in short supply. Also I will want your details for future reference just incase our main set which has probably done more race hours than any other Group A in the world since 1988 get damaged (Yes thats right not fall apart get damaged).

it remains at around $200... i enquired about 4m of 2mm thick stainless pipe yesterday and it was around the $300 mark

Glad someone else is as scared as his woman as I am!

I nearly posted this last night.....now that you have done it

Crank up the volume for a lap with an RB20....I never get sick of this sound.

    • Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Replace the turbos. Probably completely separate issues.
    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
