I just finsh my head gasket replace. i use OEM head gasket with ARP studs. no prob going good.

but i got bit confuce abt the cam timing.

when i put back my cam gears i align all marks with back of the cam cover as well as the crank timing with the mark on the oil pump. when i put back the crank pulley, [0] orange mark want match with the the lover timing cover mark. and i have set the ing timing to 15 dig [useng timing light]. accoding to manual instruction. but when i put back the throttle sensor connector timing mark gos to 10 dig.

one more thing, when i rotate the CAS for aject the timing i can hear bit loud noice like TIC TIC . why is that..?

b4 i was not like that. pls see the photo.

just wonder whats the prob..? pls help

Isn't stock timing 15 degress BTDC? Means you're about 3 marks off where you should be, I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to learn about timing at the moment.

Stock timing is 15 deg, lots of people set it to 18, obviously with 98 ron, hard to tell difference, just slightly better fuel economy

The orange or yellow mark is TDC and each mark is 5 deg with the furthest being 30 deg advanced, Manufacturers dont stamp After TDC marks on pulleys

If ur cam gears line up with backing plate and ur crank gear lines up with oil pump, All is OK And

Then if u fit ur harmonic balancer/Crank pulley and its not lining up with timing belt cover marks

Assuming ur belt cover is fiitted correctly and the cam gears still line up

Your harmonic balancer/crank pulley is starting to separate, which means u need a new one..........And u will never be able know exactly what timing u are running

Thanks guys. today i chk again. I recon all marks are 100% match with cover. but the prob is still that TIC TIC noice is comming. when i advance the engine its too much. any body know any good workshop around westren sydney. thx

for the timing bit, yes stock timing is 15 degrees and should be set with the car in base idle mode as that locks the timing at 15 degrees. once you go out of base timing mode it is normal for the timing to alter as that is what the ecu does. it alters the timing at different rpms and loads.

as for the tic tic, when you say that you spin the cas, do you mean you have it out of the cam and are spinning it by hand but still have the wires plugged in, or are you meaning when you just loosen the 3 bolts off to alter the timing it is making the noise? it could just be that CAS is at a point where the sensor and the trigger inside just happen to be lining up and when you are rotating it is triggering an injector to fire (if the ignition is turned on). or is it happening when the car is running?

it happening while engine is at running as wel las the spining the cas.most of the time when the car starting and some times rev up as well

    • A 1.5 way is a 2 way. It is just a 2 way with a less aggressive ramp on overrun.
    • The ABS and/or TCS being missing/broken will not cause the engine to misbehave. It just casues CEL to come on and annoy you. The CEL is useless if it is always on, so you have to do the things you have to do to get rid of it, so it can be useful. Being a Stag ECU, then yes, it will not expect TCS to be present. But it will expect ABS to be present and working. You will need to either make the ABS CU talk to the ECU (don't ask me what that will take on an NA R34), and make sure the hardware is working....or, you just need to blank it out in Nistune. Do not persist with the stock ECU. You will just have problems. Gte it Nistuned. Start from there. DO YOU HAVE A BOOST SENSOR? The ECU's boost sensor that it. It is connected to the loom at the rear of the coil cover. Usually rides on the firewall on an R34, but is usually bolted down to a bracket along with all the other crap at the back of the coil cover when a Neo is dropped into another car. If you do not have it, the ECU will shit the bed. So, do you have one?
    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
