some guys are selling cheap timers in the For Sale Accessories or Business sections on these forums.. Apexi pen timers etc.

For example http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=29089

not sure how his prices compare, but there isnt much variation.

as for shops i guess u could try xspeed etc

Motorquipe at whitfords city (NOR) has just opened and when i had a look the other day, i noticed they had some very good opening prices on gauges and the apexi TT, brand new was on special for $159. Thats pretty good, from what i've seen...

they have a medium sized range of autometer gauges and stuff like that, again for pretty good prices. Maybe have a look up there, if its not a huge drive...

go check out www.importscene.com.au

Gregg (managing director) is an excellent bloke, i think he is actually on holidays for a little while though, but if your willing to wait maybe a couple of weeks, drop him and email and tell him MirKz sent you and told him to give u a good deal. (he should knock some $$ off for ya).

get a pivot baby timer for sure.

I got one and pulled the electronics out of it and set it all up behind my clock so that the clock face is now that of the timer and the buttons on the clock mimic that of the timer. ie. power is now reset button etc... looks acool at night too and it hides it out of sight. if you need a hand with it let me know and i can help.

Nate

I'm definately interested in doing this ..

What color are the numbers on the pivot baby timer?

Jason.

pivot timers have red numbers... not that bad really... breaks up all the bloody blue on the dash.

putting it behind the clock is not so hard as it is figity :)

you will have to pull apart the clock and make a square hole in the centre of the clocks PCB (printed circuit board). you wil also need to make sure that all tracks are cut which link up all the common rails/tracks on the clock pcb (easier said than done)

once that is done...

to mimic the clock buttons to do what the power, seconds and minutes buttons will do, you will need to solder link wires between the buttons on the clock PCB to the buttons on the timer PCB... once again, easier done that said.

Thats about it! if you have done this correct all you will have to do if put the clock back tp together, with a hole in the back of the black clock case, so that the timer pcb will slot into the whole clock case and put back into the dash as removed.

If you have cut the holes in the clock PCB and clock casing tight enough the timer PCB will hold itself in tight enough, if not you will probably have to affix it to the case do that it doesn't fall out when you break hard ;)

i will post pics toght if i can, otherwise let me know if you are interested and i cann aid you in the creating from hell :)

I'm definately interested in giving it a go, shame the colour is red, was hoping for a bright blue ...

I just have to wait till I get new bankcards (bastards stole my wallet) before I buy anything.

Will let you know closer to when I get it :(

What suburb are you in?

yeah no worries,

just let me know when you want to do it... i would say for you to get it all installed (harness and all) and when that is done you can bring your clock and timer over and i can make the mod for you... should only take about 1 hour. i live in winthrop

not too sure but i know that you timer should have about 5 or 6 wires (correct me if im wrong) like ign, constant power, ground, acc, and hand-brake coming out of the back of the timer. if you can hook those up and leave enough so that you can cut the wires and re-solder them back again, you should be right. all i will need is the timer itself and the clock.

when i said harness i really ment the wires that come out of the timer. i dont think that i had a terminal block or anything with mine.

hope that helps

    • Yeah, sort of blurring two different things together, aren't we? I just meant O2 feedback closed loop. I used to have a 0-1V LCD meter on my dash, wired directly to the O2 sensor signal. So you could easily see what it was doing. Normal running it would flick back and forth nicely. Slow down to an idle and it would keep flicking, as the ECU tried to servo to maintain stoich, but it would slow down as each swing happened until it would stay at one end of the scale. As I said above, the sensor heater is not enough to keep it hot enough when there is also little heat in the exhaust flow. Give it a blip and it would start swinging again, then peter out again. Meanwhile, idle speed control would run just fine, because unrelated.
    • It's not even O2 feedback, it's just simply when the ECU sees the closed TPS signal for whatever reason the idle will start steadily dropping until the engine dies. With the TPS adjusted to not trigger closed TPS it will idle at some ridiculously high RPM and something like 6 degrees of timing. In the absence of getting eyes on it personally and a lot of quality time doing diagnostics I couldn't tell you what the real problem was but it was interesting nonetheless
    • Oof. One of my mates has an R34 GT-R that he initially was a "I want to go twins for response and convenience" on his stock 2.6 with Kelford 272 cams, but his friends are pests and were always in his ear about their place being in the bin.   Eventually one of the 2860-5s decided to add it's own input and force his hand, so he conceded and went for a Pulsar 6262G ("G35 900") with T4 0.85 hotside.    Here's an overlay of the results, same cams, same stock bottom end, same boost, same fuel, just from a pretty tidy 2860-5 install to a Pulsar turbo on a 6boost maniifold on BP98.   Worth mentioning here, it may seem like a dead horse thing but the dyno plot doesn't tell the story of how much better it is to drive - transient response has completely changed the car, he used to have flat foot shifting to stop it having to wind up again on gear changes even at >7000rpm... now it builds boost faster than that even short shifting.   It's 100% transformed the car before you even consider how much better it holds on: Pulsar and Garrett aren't the same, but from our experience if you're just looking for a better drive and the ability to make the same or more power I think the divided G30 770 would probably be the smallest I'd go to.
    • Great work Duncan, any events local you will give it a test once all done?
