my gf was on a business trip to Japan for a while.. she saw a couple of the v35 and said its looks MUCH better than in pics.... also commented on the cute beachboy style guy whose driving it ... :)

I think it's sorta like this. I think the V35 is a nice car in the same way that the Z33 is a nice car. But both these cars are perhaps a tad 'diluted' in concept and design compared to their predeccessors. That's ok. I think the intended target audience for the Z33/V35 has aged a bit. Styling is personal I suppose and I think everyone complains about common styling themes but in what is supposed to be a flagship design... "me too" styling doesn't cut it.

At $70,000 for a Z33 and I would imagine something like $100,000+ for a V35... what do people really want?

A Series 2 R34 GT-R? A Series 3 R33 GT-R? Even an RX8? You might say that we're all pretty young here with slightly more hard edged aspirations than the z33/v35.

your right on those accounts, nice cars, but there is soooo much potential as the HKS article highlighted. I wouldnt knock back a 350z if I was given one, or even got it cheap, but the driving is blah due to the breathless feel of the top end and "too short" go-kart handling that doesn't lend itself to hi-po control. I think the reports show the V35 to be a superior car to the Z overall, I just despise Nissan for not bringing out the V35 and pretending the Z is a top of the line stonk mobile.

Pricewise a Z is 60K and an RX8 70K and I'm not a fan of the RX8. There is no push in the back.... ever, no matter how good it handles. No idea what a V35 350GT might go for but not far off a Z due to inherent similarities.

Styling is such a critical thing but look at all new cars around that class and there is a fair amount of commonality, and ignore our cars as these are trying for that distinctly euro feel. Note the new Mk II and Chaser from Toyota in their styling, for the period released they were looking decidedly BMWish. If a GTR came out with the standard differences of tougher styling, pumped guards, more power TT and 4wd but still very much a V35 we would probably warm to it after a while, then get passionate about it once used to it, but how many would be in a position to own???

I still can't afford an R33 GTR yet, and choose to stick to R33 GTSt for the driving style, but you get what I mean. I drove my mates 180 with RB20 and....yeah OK, but I wouldn't own one....it's just not me. Don't like the styling but still a good machine that keeps others happy.

I even drove the arse off an S2000 2 days ago, flogging that 9000rpm redline and getting the hot blonde I was doing the negotiating for squealing in excitement. We drove past some cute teenie girlies and she got stared daggers, which is a nice feeling but I think that other than that engine, it's puss and the handlings flawed and the clutch won't hold a fast change from first to second at full noise.

Horses for courses, I 'spose. Iv'e shown my lack of good taste and just prefer performance to looks, at the expense of performance.

if no one has suggested it yet, get the V35 coupe, but chuck in any of the RB motors in!!! I've seen workshops in japan fit the RB26 in the 350z, i'm sure they can fit them in the V35. As for styling, i've seen the coupe in america when I went overseas. When you see it in person, it looks a lot more sexier than in pictures, and, to me at least, it doesn't remind me of the 350z anymore. My opinion anyways.

HKS can do anything they like with their unlimited budget though. I'm talking about cheap factory turbo options. I presume if a factory turbo option is made they will make a new front bar to accommodate a fmic.

Looking at the V35 and 350Z side by side the Skyline looks even uglier :)

I agree there, as ex_zero said, pictures don't quite do the V35 justice. Seeing them in person (coupe and sedan) practically every day, I find that theres very little similarity between the Fairlady Z and the V35... strange, but true. But a heck of a lot of Japanese cars are trying to do that soft-hard edged look which doesn't always work, eg: Teana/Maxima.

The current Mark II looks BMWish? Or the JZX100?

There's an R34 with a twin turbo VQ motor conversion (Top Secret from memory). There's plenty of space to the sides and front (obviously) for turbos and FMIC respectively.

You would expect this due to the fact that the nose of the 34 is big enough to hold the RB.

I was surprised there was enough room between the towers for the twin N1 turbos.

You can sorta see the progression from 32-33-34 but just like how the 32 was something quantum over the 31 maybe given time, we'll see the 35 in the same way.

Fair go tony! :);):)

I reckon there is more resemblance between the R31 and the R34...

than the R34 and R32/33

the 34 have more squarer lines etc much like the R31's had.

Save for the interior of the R31 though (it was the 80's afterall)

And i agrre with a few others, it donest do it for me at all.

Yeah it's not too bad looking, but it doesnt quite keep with the past 15 years.

Or you can even go back to the KPGC10 etc, the R31-34 compared to it... you can very much see how styling has changed but still carries the influence from many years prior

Son-na, Ahona!

my mistake, not the new one, the 100. They are looking pretty good though and would have been a better choice in aus than Camry or Avalon.

Enough thread hijack. Back to Skylines!!

Im not particularly fond of it... in my eyes it has completely lost the hardcore edge and design that made the R3 series skylines what they are. They probably have a nice engine, but I just cant like the styling of the car at this point in time. I know its a completely new car not an evolution of the R3 series, but when you mention to someone the name Skyline they think of GTR's winning bathurst etc. In my opinion, this new breed of skyline looks wimpy.

But then again it comes down to the saying "beautiy is in the eye of the beholder". :(

hey Rezz,

just wondering how much the v35 will cost you on the road....in aus dollars if you could convert.....

As im just wondering why you dont go for a r32 r33 r34 gtr instead? how would they compare in price?

cheers and good luck with the v35...

I've seen the G35 (akaV35) state side.

It's way nicer in the metal.

So long as you don't get one of those crappy looking 350Z or Soarer TT lookalikes.

BTW whats the V35 going for in Japan ATM ? Not that I can afford to buy just curious. :headspin:

    • I thought that might be the case, thats what I'll start saving for. Thanks for the info
    • Ps i found the below forum and it seems to be the same scenario Im dealing with. Going to check my ECU coolant temp wire tomorrow    From NICOclub forum: s1 RB25det flooding at start up Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:23 am I am completely lost on this. Car ran perfectly fine when I parked it at the end of the year. I took the engine out and painted the engine bay, and put a fuel cell with an inline walbro 255 instead of the in tank unit I had last year. After reinstalling everything, the engine floods when the fuel pump primes. if i pull the fuel pump fuse it'll start, and as soon as I put the fuse back in it starts running ridiculously rich. I checked the tps voltage, and its fine. Cleaned the maf as it had some dust from sitting on a shelf all winter, fuel pressure is correct while running, but wont fire until there is less than 5psi in the lines. The fuel lines are run correctly. I have found a few threads with the same problem but no actual explanation of what fixed it, the threads just ended. Any help would be appreciated. I found the problem though. There was a break in one of the ecu coolant temp sensor wires. Once it was repaired it fired right up with no problems. I would have never thought a non working coolant temp sensor would have caused such an issue.
    • Hi sorry late reply I didnt get a chance to take any pics (my mechanics on the other side of the city) but the plugs were fouled from being too rich. I noticed the MAF wasn't genuine, so I replaced it with a genuine green label unit. I also swapped in a different ignitor, but the issue remains. I've narrowed it down a bit now: - If I unplug and reconnect the fuel lines and install fresh spark plugs, the car starts right up and runs perfectly. Took it around the block with no issues - As soon as I shut it off and try to restart, it won't start again - Fuel pressure while cranking is steady around 40 psi, injectors have good spray, return line is clear, and the FPR vacuum is working. It just seems like it's getting flooded after the first start I unplugged coolant sensors to see if its related to ECU flooding but that didnt make a difference. Im thinking its related to this because this issue only started happening after fixing coolant leaks and replacing the bottom part of the stock manifolds coolant pipe. My mechanic took off the inlet to get to get to do these repairs. My mechanics actually just an old mate who's retired now so ill be taking it to a different mechanic who i know has exp with RBs to see if they find anything. If you have any ideas please send em lll give it a try. Ive tried other things like swapping the injectors, fuel rail, different fuel pressure regs, different ignitor, spark plugs, comp test and MAF but the same issue persists.
    • My return flow is custom and puts the return behind the reo, instead of at the bottom. All my core is in the air flow, rather than losing some of it up behind the reo. I realise that the core really acts more as a spiky heatsink than as a constant rate heat exchanger, and that therefore size is important.... but mine fits everything I needed and wanted without having to cut anything, and that's worth something too. And there won't be a hot patch of core up behind the reo after every hit, releasing heat back into the intake air.
    • There is a really fun solution to this problem, buy a Haltech (or ECU of your choice) and put the MAF in the bin.  I'm assuming your going to want more power in future, so you'll need to get the ECU at some stage. I'd put the new MAF money towards the new ECU.
