Mate just got back from trail bike riding out at Lithgow with a $340 fine and 3 demerit points. Driving down a dirt road and his front number plate fell off. No screws to hold it on so he just put it inside the ute. Cop pulls him over he explained what had happened was breath tested all ok. He then asked for his license so he could run a check before he was on his way. Comes back with the fine!!!!!

He was respectful and polite to the officer but the sneaky so and so was not at all reasonable, didn't even tell him that he was going to fine him just came back with it. Very low act in my opinion!

im not defending the cop at all here, and yea its pretty bs that he gave you a fine but it sounds more like your upset over the fact that he didn't prepare you for the fact that you were going to get a fine and that he suprised you after you assumed you were going to get away with it :)

man that just sounds like a cop on a power trip, hate cops like that, even tho its within their power, they don't need to do it. i have been let off for speeding (110 in an 80 zone), blatantly talking on the phone and driving with rego out, all let off because i was nice and polite and the cops didn't find the need to use/exercise their power.

Sounds more like the cop was deciding to give your mate a fine depending on what came up on the computer system...

yeah i agree, without knowing the cop, or the guy he finned, and assuming the original post in this thread is acurate, it sounds asif he's checked the license and its come up with previously being a trouble maker, either recent speeding, other defects, maybe it wasn't the first time the number plate has fallen off, and when my front number plate on my old car fell off i had no idea it had fallen off for hours afterwards, so without pointing any fingures or accusing anyone of anything, the cop would also find it hard to believe that you have happened to have heard the numberplate fall off on a dirt track and have gone back to get it. Also two resourcefull dirt bikers couldn't improvise to make the plate be visible from the front of the car somehow.... not saying this is the case, but probably what the cop was thinking.

Also unrelated to my first experience is once i got a new numberplate for a car at the rta and i couldnt get the numberplate to fit in the original holes somehow..... anyway i put it pressed up against the front window, got pulled over, showed him i was just comming back from rta and i need some decent tools from home to make it fit, he said he can still book me for obscureing the front window and for not displaying plate properly, but let me go since i have attempted to make it visible from the front.....

Yeah your probably right. He was driving a ute not an import though and I am pretty sure he has a clean record, he really isn't a trouble maker. Yeah I think I'm most annoyed that he set him up to get away with it then slaps him down at the last minute. No power trip just topping up his figures for the week! Thanks for the discretion I guess.

Cheers Matt.

The guys driving in front pulled him up they said they were betting on how long it would take to drop as it was swinging back and forth.... :P

He lost all his tools from a hole in his back pack with which he most likely could have re-attached it somehow. The cop said he should have stopped at a servo and put it back on. I guess he was in the wrong but man have a heart not like he was going to ram raid or anything!

It's all good man... I never believe in the "Gotten away with it" until 6 months later and the fine hasn't arrived in the mail... LOL

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
