I can think of a couple of names that are considered the best players of all time but don't have the fancy medals to show for it like that mid fielder's medal that I don't even rate.........what's it called? Brownlow or something similar :D

When players of opposite teams choose the best player for any given year and doesn't coincide with the Brownlow winner for that year, that's gotta tell you something!! I rate player's choices much higher than umpires.

It tells me that umpires know shit!! Sometimes they get the voting right, but most times they are lazy and just look at the stats at the end of the game then give the 3 votes to the one with the most pozzys (even if the match winner had 1/2 the pozzys)..........hence usually a midfielders medal.

Having said that, McLeod is def an awesome player but don't sell me the idea that he's the greatest of all time.

you say that because your in south australia and it has a fairly low talent pool :D

but just a few names you may want to research there careers/records.

Jason Akermanis

Brownlow Medal 2001; All-Australian 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004; International Rules Series 1999, 2000; Brisbane Lions premiership sides 2001, 2002, 2003; Jim Stynes Medal 1999 Goal of the year 2002 played 325 games for 421 goals..

Adam Goodes

Garry Ablett SNR

Wayne Carey

Michael Voss

take nothing away from McLeod superstar.. but he isnt exactly ina league of his own.

1st - It's you're not 'your'. 2nd - It's their career/records not 'there'. If you are going to have a crack at small talent pools then at least show that you're not from a low gene pool.

However, to stay on topic and address the names you put forward:

(IMO) G Ablett Snr & Carey were better than McLeod. Voss & Akermanis I would put on par with McLeod. Goodes is a few rungs below - has never won a B&F at Sydney despite 2 umpires' awards.

You listed 5 players over a 30 year span. That would suggest that McLeod is a very elite league, if not one on his own. What he does have are 3x BOG performances in 3 successful Grand Finals. He was also pretty decent in Preliminary finals and was a pioneer of the half-back flanker role that now get tagged by opposition forwards.

Remember you said 'many' players match and exceed McLeod. I still disagree with that statement.

Edit for SLED: McLeod - AFL Players Association MVP: 2001. I agree that this is more valuable than the umpires' award.

lulwut spelling correction on the interwebz uh oh! serious business.

Now if you really want to have a shit fight about it i'm happy to debate it with you as i just listed some examples you know to show you that your beloved McLeod really isn't that special. Now go cry yourself to sleep over the fact that 1. McLeod was a good player among many. 2. Adelaides a dump 3. Your life sucks.

oh just to satisfy you further you could just about list half the Brisbane Lions team that won 3 GF's in a row the 'awesome foursome' & brownie or dunstall, or perhaps names such as you could go back through the history books and pull out your old school players too if you wish daicos, matthews, blight.. point is probably made. Dont forget AFL has been played for more than 10 years

kthxbye :D

the interstate teams have all done fairly well quite early in existance perhaps the concessions helped more than they should have? west coast did very well in its first decade, as did adelaide and port adelaide even brisbane merging with fitzroy seemed to work out fairly well too........

anyway bit off track i was just saying McLeod is a good player but among many

  • 2 weeks later...

Cant say i didnt see it coming. Dunno why the f**k Brisbane even took him on board, Bradshaw and Brown did more than just hold it together up front! They ended up pissing off Bradshaw and now their newest power forward is f**ked.

Hey Damo, you can get your eyes off the Pav now..........looks like he'll die a Docker...........surprised Ryan isn't on here breaking open the bubbly

Big congrats to the "Big Mattress" for the coaching Job......Chris Scott would've been OK too, so I didn't really mind which way it went.

ohhh trust me I have been smiling all day....it's very rare to see that kind of loyalty in sports these days! His wife is WA so I would say that played a part aswell, also the fact all of his hard work is now finially paying off. Fremantle will be a team to watch over the next 3 years :P

Also good to see Freo didn't get knocked out of the first round of the finals after all there hard work this year (top 4 for 17 or so rounds). This Friday night will be a very very good game as Fremantle have absolutely nothing to loose and everything to gain! Considering Geelong were Premiers last year (2nd on ladder) and Fremantle finished 3rd from bottom (14th)!!!

    • The German place in Cabramatta was rock solid, fresh pretzel cooked to order back then. Then it went all quiet, after all the poker machines were removed, then I believe it closed for good. I did drive past the other week and noticed outdoor lighting a big screen, but no idea what is there now.
    • Yeah I suspect even if you hold airmass per cycle/cylinder constant if you get too far away from stock you're still going to have problems running the factory tune within the bounds of the factory load scale. Cams, different displacement/rod ratio, etc. I'm just lucky that the GTIII-SS with wastegate boost + CA compliance cats is pretty much equivalent to stock turbos. When I have actual space I can finally get it tuned and modify the fuel system for flex fuel to 100% handle any detonation concerns when cranking the boost to whatever those dinky turbos can put out.
    • I would say no, why, because my daughter, who also lives in Goulburn, hasn't recommended us going there Pity, as we miss all the German joints around in Sydney, actually, the restaurants are the only thing I really miss about Sydney, and a special mention to Ishibanboshi at Bondi Junction, their Kara-age Don is heart cloggingly deliciousness (always added a special boiled egg...or 2) 😋
    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around without a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
