Does Anyone Know The Roads From Westgate To Great Ocean Road Very Well?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I need someones help that knows the roads from Westgate bridge to Great Ocean Road.

We are organising a cruise for the 28th Feb and we were planning on using the same map we have used for quite a few years.

I have been told that the roads have changed a bit but I don't have the time to drive down and check it out. I tried using google maps but I still rather confirm with someone that knows.

If you know the roads like the back of your hand and are kind enough to help me out, please email, pm me.

Thanks

Brandon

They have built the Geelong bypass

So now you can go to Great Ocean Rd without having to waste time being stuck in Geelong traffic

The freeway splits before Geelong with a turnoff to the old route labeled "Geelong" and the bypass is labeled "to Great Ocean Rd"

yeah to bypass geelong, stick to the 2 right hand lanes of the free way as your come up to Geelong. that will take you on the by pass 100kph no lights, saves like 30-45mins.

then if i can remember right, there is a turn after geelong, maybe 10-20 after the bypass that will take you to GOR.

there are Geelong locals on SAU that will be able to help you much more :)

i just bypass all the shit to get to Warrnambool , dont take much notice of anything else

the bypass will pop you out at a road that goes to anglesea from memory, IMO I would take it. well signed.

it runs from pretty much lara to fyansford(geelong ring road) note the route is an example only to show the ring road, not one I have used.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Yah I am sure that there are very clear signs heading to GOR but the reason why I ask the info is for the Cruise Maps we hand at the meet.

This is a snip-et straight from the current Map, as you can see it is fairly detailed and this is the cut-downed version :)

1) Meet at Todd Road Shell Service Centre/KFC before Westgate Bridge (MEL 56 H1). MAKE SURE YOU FILL UP HERE.

2) Exit Shell and turn left onto the Westgate Fwy (M1) and stay on until signs show merging onto Princes Fwy (M1). Follow road left (MEL 40 E11).

3) Continue to stay on the Princes Fwy (M1) (MEL 442) through Corio into Geelong (Mel 432 & 442). Note speed decreases when driving through Geelong.

4) Take M1 through North Geelong into Geelong, passing the Ford Factory (MEL 442 & 452). Get into the right hand lanes, M1 heading towards Torquay, continue up over bridge on the M1 (MEL 452 A1).

Note on Myers Road Geelong – Red light/speed camera at intersection (MEL 451 K4)

5) Continue on M1 past turn off for B110 and past Kardinia Park on the left hand side (MEL 401).

Note red light/speed camera at intersection of M1 and C112 (MEL 401 C11).

6) Continue on M1 crossing over the Barwon River (MEL 451 K8)

7) Turn left at lights onto B100 Surf Coast Hwy towards the Great Ocean Road/Torquay (MEL 465 J1) soon after passing Daytona Go Karts Centre on the left.

So I think since we state to keep on the M1, no changes are required.

dont like that route, sounds like you will be going straight through geelong, see my link above for the ring road bypass...

your group will be split up completely through geelong, every intersection has a redlight camera, and its only 70kph

bypass 100kph, no lights and double turning lane at the end to exit. much better to go that way to keep the cars together.

    • ok so if i wanted to go 18's i would go for 8's  in front 30+ or 32+ off set at front and the back 9 would be ok? what offset should i aim for.. then can i do some  hunting for wheel rim choices..    If i get this - will this fit all around: Size: 18 x 8.5 +37 - n what tyres size tyre should i get for front n back?
    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
