ashneel
ok its nothing big (well i hope not) whenever i start my car (cold start in the morning or if the car has not moved for a few hours or so) i always see as i start the car the oil pressure gauge kicks in and reads high as the engine is cold and the pressure is high bla bla bla all is normal and it drops as the car warms up. but a month ago i took off my rocker covers and plenum to get it cleaned and painted so when removing this allot of vacuum hoses had to be disconnected. while everything was out my cams were visible so just to prevent anything from getting in there i covered all opening and the top of the motor with a sheet. after all the painting was done i connected all my hoses back and made sure i didn’t leave anything behind or any nipples without a hose. all is well. but ever since then when i start my car up, it now takes a little longer then normal for the oil pressure to build up. so when i start my car (if it hasnt moved for a while) ill get a little bit of a knocking sound like tappets with no oil around them and then my oil pressure gauge kicks in to the normal high read and the noise stops (all this happens within a second maybe less but its noticeable). i have checked for any cracked hoses or lose connection or to see if i left anything off and i cant find anything. Other then that the oil pressure reads as it normally does. any idea what this could be? i have checked oil level and also have done an oil change and its still the same. could this be causing any kind of damage??? ta Ash Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/308420-r34-gtt-oil-pressure/ Share on other sites
allthewaytotheskyline
what does it read too on start up, and then when completely warm? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/308420-r34-gtt-oil-pressure/#findComment-5089924 Share on other sites
ashneel
when engine is cold the oil pressure reads between close to 6 maybe a little higher. as the car warms up and gets to normal operating temp it drops to 4. this was before and after so nothing has changed there Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/308420-r34-gtt-oil-pressure/#findComment-5090055 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
Hey Ash, just sounds like the filter filling up. Maybe the anti drain valve in the filter isn't sealing properly? Have you changed filter brands lately? ashneel
as in oil filter??? if so then no. have always stuck to one filter type which is what ever status tuning put on for me. youll prop see what i mean when i come this arvo once the car sits there for a little while. but generally does it which the oil is sitting at the bottom of the motor Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/308420-r34-gtt-oil-pressure/#findComment-5090148 Share on other sites
scotty nm35
I know the filters Trent is using and there is a whole thread dedicated to the same issue. I suspect the one way drainback valve leaks on that particular brand (which I am running) and over the space of a few hours drains the filter requiring it to be refilled. Other than that they have a great filter medium inside so im told. If you dont like the startup rattles just try a different brand oil filter, should fix the issue. scotty nm35
I dont know, maybe just a bad batch of filters? Not hard to check if that is the case. You could just turn the music up. Gareth87
I does sound like a drain back problem, i dont think it would have anything to do with removing you tappet cover. I used a cheaper jap brand of filter on my FJ without a drain back valve and it made a pretty good rattle at start up, i changed to a ryco, with drain back valve and it cut a lot of the rattle out. You could always spin off the filter and stick another brand or something on there and try that? Easy test and pretty cheap.
