Some people do bother with the rears, and if you were going to do the fronts, you should definitely do the rears too. It will look absolutely retarded with a fat front and skinny-arsed rear.

You basically have to cut and weld up the rear quarter sections from a GTR, and then fill and respray. I would add in the cost of a respray to this conversion.

I've seen some of these conversions come through the Prestige Auto mailing list, it is worth the effort if you have the bucks. It has a lot more credibility than just sticking on a GTR wing and front bar. (not that I hate either of those things)

it can be done, but as previously said you'd need the front guards, front bumper, (maybe bonnet too) and then have all the hassle of cutting. welding, matching and spraying the rear guards too. It just sounds like a little too much time, effort and money for a mod that isn't going to give you any power/perfornmance gains and is more than likely gonna have a lot of people crying "ahh, GTR wannabe!"

They wont! :D Unlike the R34's with the interior MFD, it'd be really difficult to spot a nice conversion complete with guards, wheels, spoiler, bonnet etc. Only giveaway would be a quick peak under the bonnet. :D It'd look good, for sure and I've seen a couple of nicely done R34's over here. Not seen a R33 yet though.

However, who would want to go to all that trouble and then drive around like a Grandma? :D Not to mention, if you did race and got beat you'd have a lot of people going around saying how (for example) their S15 just whipped a GTR's ass...

lol @ supergimp- u also need the GTR bonnet to do the conversion as well.

if you want something different, get some nice aftermarket guards like so..

Nicks-R32-Skyline-Aero-Fend.jpg

~$500 a pair

vented bonnet @ ~$1000

get it all painted up, get a nice kit and you'll have something really awesome that isn't just a GTS-T, and also isn't a GTR.. Do something different!

I'm thinking about doing this modd i mean the only thing i don't have is the RB26 but i do have the AWD....

I've been told you need not only the outside but the inner gaurds too, told by some one who has done it.

Japanese Motorsport in Adelaide did it to their MENTAL as Drift R33 and i can tell u know that thing was a rocket and it looked so sweet its not funny!

I know astigraff previously said not to mention the rears anymore but for those of you out there that are considering this mod I will add the following info:

In addition to the obvious high cost of the panel shop cutting, welding and painting etc, you also need additional parts like the GTR wheel tubs and even the fuel filler neck (as it is shorter in order to meet the GTS guard) as well the rear bumper and other unforseeable parts that add up to an expensive conversion. Looks awesome though if done properly (as the JMS car demonstrates) but questionable from a fiscal perpective (hopefully this wasn't common knowledge and I haven't wasted you guys' valuable surfing time).

Cheers.

PS. James at D1 Garage in Adelaide just pumped his rear guards wildly on his S14 (about 1 1/2 inches I think) and he says the result on a skyline would be just as good as changing to GTR guards but at about 1/4 of the cost. Drop him a line.

Good luck.

    • What copper washer do you guys use on the bleeder bolts? The existing one I have I had no idea where to find it in a local store, I did buy some online but that are only 1mm thick whereas my old one is 2mm+ thick and when I put the new washer out and squeeze the top radiator hose I can hear a bit of air but not with the old one. Does this matter? The new one doesn't leak, but the inner diameter is a bit loose whereas the old one threads on the bolt.
    • Howdy all, after being out a few weeks ago on a spirited drive in my GTR I have 2 issues that oddly have appeared at the same time. Whilst accelerating quickly through the gears all of a sudden i’ve lost power at the top of third gear (below redline around 6000rpm) for no obvious reason.    From that point onwards the car has been running rich on idle, won’t really rev under load without a ton of black smoke and the odd backfire, and dying as a pull up to a set of lights unless I keep the revs up around 1500rpm. In addition when shutting down the car that same night (I was 10 minutes from home) I noticed one of the turbos was significantly noisy on wind down when shutting off the engine. After letting the car cool down overnight it starts up fine, although once it gets to temp the revs start to creep up and down, the exhaust is darker than it should be and it also sounds like it’s running rich (fat note) I’ve put a new set of plugs in it - no change, the old plugs all seemed OK with two of them being somewhat richer/fueled up than the other 3 with 1 being borderline. I’ve smoked tested the intake system via the front of the Turbos, found a split vacuum hose going to the factory boost gauge sender, which I have since replaced.  Also found another leak on the gasket coming off the rear turbo outlet, have also replaced this. After fixing both of these leaks - still have the running rich issue. I’ve also tried another pair of AFM’s - no change here After pulling off the front turbo intake pipes, there is obvious shaft play in the front turbo, which now hisses loudly on light revvs although I can’t see why this would make the car run funny even under idle. I’m curious to know why it’s running rich before I potentially replace/rebuild turbos. The car is completely stock <50,000kms  other than an exhaust. Oil and coolant are all clear. I haven’t bothered with coil packs as it looks like they won’t be the issue due to condition of the plugs. Any help appreciated as I cry myself to sleep!
    • No probs at all. I used to love trying to dig up obscure info for those in need where possible going back 20+ years on SAU.  I did have another look and couldn't come up with any closer match. I'm leaning towards those skirts in your first pic are custom fitments, cut down/extended or from another car entirely and modded to fit an R34 sedan. I would've thought someone in Japan had them and taken a photo at some stage over the last 2 decades but there's nothing. Someone out there must know surely.
    • Welcome mate. Any pics? Even with a DE I'd be well happy if I had that as a 1st car.
