I have a pretty stock r33 with a intercooler, blow of valve and a air filter which all other parts being stock i think and recently took my car for a service/tune. Sorry if i sound stupid in advance i dont know much about cars and i tried using the search function. The guy said fuel pump was broken and replaced it but i was wondering how the fuel pump would brake so i can avoid making the same mistake?

Also i got it on the dyno and got 188kw running at 11.5 pounds of boost. Is that normal ? I've also been wanting to start working my car up but am a bit lost with where to start. Is there a general guide on these forums to help me get started or educate with the basics of what i need to know ? Also, if i want to start working on my car where should i start and what are quick things i can do that arent too expensive to increase performance ? thanks in advance !

ok, the fuel pump just wears out over time and there isn't anything in particular you can do to prevent it. find out what sort of pump he replaced it with as this may be something that you need to look into when upgrading further. if he went with something like a bosch 040 then you will be fine, but if he only went with a stock unit then if you start chasing more power it might be worth upgrading to a better unit (such as the bosch i listed).

you listed your mods, but didn't mention the exhaust. does it have a bigger exhaust, or just the stock system? i'm guessing by your power figure that it would probably have a 3" exhaust as you would struggle to make that power with the stock one. but that power level is about right for that boost level and those mods.

as for modifying it, firstly, if any of the exhaust is still stock, such as the dump pipe, then i'd start by upgrading that. after that you are pretty close to the limit of what both the stock ecu and stock turbo will handle. the turbo will go a bit higher, but the life expectancy of it dramatically shortens. there are many options when it comes to upgrading both ecu and turbo, but depending on how far you want to take it you may be going into the area where other mods are needed such as injectors and AFM as they don't go that far beyond the stock ecu and turbo. many people will tell you to go with a pfc as a replacement ecu, but personally i would go with a z32 ecu and a nistune daughterboard. this will set you back about half of what a pfc will and do pretty much the same thing.

Also another question regarding the computer. Do i need to get it tuned or whatever everytime i get a upgrade? so if i do upgrade the exhaust would i need to get it tuned again ? if not when do i need to get these things done as im not quiet sure ! thanks alot for the help !

if its a 3" exhaust from the cat converter back (ruffly located under the passenger seat section of the car), then upgrade it from the turbo back to make it a complete 3" turbo back exhaust (ie. dump pipe, front pipe and cat converter)

with the stock ecu you can't actually tune it, so you don't need to do anything when you upgrade things, however somethings you upgrade require an aftermarket ecu to run them. a good example of this is if you put in bigger injectors. the stock ecu is setup to think that the injectors are 370cc, so if you go and put in bigger ones it will still think it has 370cc ones in there and be dumping in way too much fuel and you'll be luck if the car will even start.

things like a bigger turbo will require an aftermarket ecu and for it to be tuned if you want to run bigger boost, however they can be run on the stock ecu at very low boost as they will still be in the paramaters of the tune on the stock ecu. you just wouldn't really make any more power than on the stock ecu.

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
