Start reading through the sticky at the top of the forced induction section. Its a road travelled by most of us here so there is plenty of information. Set yourself a goal and a budget and stick to it.

Also i think you mean 3.5" catback.

Depends what you want. If power is all you are after than start with modifications that will help you now, but will also not need to be replaced down the track

ECU upgrade, fuel pump upgrade, intercooler upgrade, boost upgrade etc.

The first goal people usually do is try and max out the stock turbo. Good gains can be had with it, once you get over it (which you will fairly quickly) it's turbo upgrade time. With this comes a whole new can of worms and cash.

You'll find most people try and achieve a power goal or a role for the car (street car, drag car, circuit car or a mixture of these). Honestly just start reading through that sticky and get your knowledge up so you know the weaknesses of the car, what max's out at what power levels and how much things cost.

Very easy to spend $10,000-$20,000 on these cars without even doing half the things that you want, especially when starting with a standard car.

That is my favourite guide. I am up to the end of stage 1 plus a Trust Intercooler. Mine makes 190rwkw. I am preparing for a 250rwkw hi flow setup.

My advice would be:

1. dump pipe and front pipe.

2. $28 turbotech boost tee

2. tune with nistune

That should get you 180-190rwkw. Then you decide how far you want to go. The only thing I have on top of that is a Trust return flow intercooler. But thats more because I will need it for my next mods.

not so keen to sell it, to be honest it's quick enough for the moment. 6 months ago i was driving a 2.2L 1994 camry, so anything would have seemed hugely fast.

I'm not one for much but have been pretty even (up to 100km speed limit) with v8 utes even though the tc tries to kill the fun (lol), the only car to stay ahead was an xr6turbo

a mate of mine has put extensive work on clean air in is NA supra which is now pulling 160rwkw which is a little concerning haha

Yeah, thinking of keeping most of it stock and improving airflow, drone etc...

300rwkw ~= 400kw at the fly ~= 530hp at the fly > ferrari 430 (in max hp anyways) (>2 x stock!!!)

holycrap lol

now you know the cost, would you guys do it again?

have you had much trouble with mr plod??

While your getting used to the stock power save some money for some of the common faults with the GTT.

Depending if it was done before have a look at the tie rod ends and castor bushes. Depending on the Kms you may need to change the coilpacks most seem to start to die at about 60,000kms to 100,000 kms and make sure you get a good workshop to look over everything. No point throwing $$ at a car that won't handle it.

hi my first step was to boost it to 10psi but as you know from my other thread i have the same issue as you and its already boosting to 11psi , so my next step (when the wife lets me) it to insall this post-70954-1268634668_thumb.jpg

and then a high flow cat . after that i might consider getting rid of my series 2 bumper and get one that i can fit a front mount intercooler in , then then then ........ i sapose the wheels will fall off before i get to do what i want to it i wish i had deep pockets , i want a power fc (ecu) but no way will the missus let me spend $1700 lol

very good. I'm in the middle of a cash flow erm, discrepancy? atm so simply happy with what i've got (tho trying to figure out what "that" is) and making plans for the next few steps later this year (it is nice to dream).

definitely looking at front and dump pipes (their stock) and maybe a better catback and tip, as well as cat, and pod filter etc.. just aiming for smooth flow.

will be good to finally determine whether or not its running stock boost, though i'm sure you feel the same

go a nistune, as good if not better technically to a power fc, much cheaper ($300 for the parts installed into your stock ecu + $500 for a full tune)

Plus the cops cant say anything because you are using the factory computer!

lol what that is is your front pipe and dump pipe all in one

it goes from your turbo all the way to your cat. it splits the gasses from your waste gate and exhaust (because the standart one trys to push the two down the same pipe causeing turblence (less flow))

so it splits the gasses and re joins them just before the cat so the high flow from your exhaust is flowing and drags the wastegate gasess through with less drag, they are garenteed to give you more horse power expercialy since its 3" straight out of your turbo.

better than the short split pipe they sell on ebay for $98 , they are not garenteed to give you more power (as fare as i know).

get that and a high flow 3" cat from ebay $170 and your exhaust is done !!!!

iv been looking for the sister board its a type 4 yeah ?. but cant find one . i was going to install one my self and then get a full tune (i have seen them in the past for $220 self install but didnt have the car yet at that stage)

That's pretty much what i thought when i saw that: front + dump + separate wastegate all in one, i didn't know they existed. Its def the type of thing im keen on, its on the list!!

Hahaha I didnt mean go out and buy it this second, just saying if you are going to buy an ecu that is what I have and would recommend.

Yup type 4. Dr Drift charged me $800 for type 4 board fitted with full tune. So somewhere around 300 for the board installed.

    • Does that German restaurant still exist in the old place out the NW end of Goulburn? When I say "out the NW end of"...I am really being vague. It was 1997 when I was last there, and the only point of reference I can recall is that it was on the opposite side of the main drag from the big merino. And when I say "opposite side of the main drag", I don't mean "on the main drag". It was either a couple of streets back from there, or might have even been out in the sticks a bit further. Was an old farm building or mill or somesuch. And when I say "the big merino" I might actually be thinking of a completely different part of town, because I just looked on maps and the big bugger is not where I remembered him to be! The food was good, consisting largely of various German mystery-meat sausage/loaf things and kartofflen.
    • So while the second sentence is completely correct and the whole point of the conversation, the first sentence bears consideration. If this bloke is just hoping to throw big turbos on and drive it around, because there are no helpful facilities at all in his tropical paradise** then he likely has zero chance of even knowing what the TP is on the last column in the stock maps, let alone know whether the ECU is operating anywhere near it or past it. So the point is very very moot. And, per what I said before, at stock boost on those turbos, you may well be off the end of the map. **I'm just back from Vanuatu, so I know exactly what small Pacific nations can be like wrt paradise without requisite facilities. But it's not even that simple. I put a high flow on my car and had to drive it around with a proper tune because of the lack of opportunity*** to put the bigger AFM and injectors into it to allow it to be tuned. I had to turn the boost down to less than I had before, and back off the boost controller's ramp, because it was exploring parts of the map that it didn't drive in before, and really couldn't access for tuning on the dyno either, and so was pinging. It was still well within the last column, because when I first**** set up the Nistune on the Neo I rescaled all axes of the maps to give some more space to explore. ***Family dyno was broken ****This was 13 years ago, and the TIM thing wasn't a thing then and so TP would definitely grow when pushing past the stock tune's limits.
    • Yep, this bit another local owner. I caught it before putting the transmission back into the car, what I noticed was the pressure plate fingers weren't flat and even. It's more obvious with the pull style clutch because the throwout bearing ring was visibly not flat once everything is put together. Nismo should really update their instructions to call out this specific detail. I'm not even sure the clutch as-shipped orients everything properly.
    • It ended up being that orientation of the float hub in relation to the clutch disk, when I installed it, I heard a loud click and being stupid, I decided to not take it a part and check it. The hub didn't properly align with the clutch disk and was causing the issue. Definitely an odd one! Dahtone Racing was able to fix me right up, stand up blokes!
    • Right, but I'm saying on the stock ECU measured airmass from the MAF is no higher than stock. So it's accounting for the higher flow rate iso-manifold pressure. You just have to keep turning down the boost until you're within the stock tune's load scale. If you run off the end there's no telling what will happen. This does mean there's zero benefit to the turbos you're running vs stock, if anything it's just a straight downgrade because the transient response is worse, you don't even get the ECU's boost solenoid helping to pull the wastegate closed during initial spool, and peak power is only whatever the factory map can give you before you hit the R&R corner. On a -9 I would bet that you would have to change out the wastegate spring once you have a real ECU and you're tuning it for real. I'm not saying this is a remotely ideal state of affairs, it's just a way to keep it driveable until you can get a proper tune done.
