Hey guys im currently in the middle of painting my rims and i went down to supercheap picked up some things and came across the cans and i asked 1 of the guys there if i can use the caliper paint on my rims. He wasnt sure so he asked some woman which said yeah you could now im not sure who is right and who is wrong but seeing as i wanted to start painting the rims this week i picked up the paint its 3M Caliper Paint. it says at the bottom its for calipers , break drums and wheel hubs.

lol the prep is killing me my hands are screwed from sanding and im a painter by trade and i do alot of sanding so the sanding should come up pretty sweet. iv used 80 grit so far and now im using 120 then going to 200 lightly and then going for the primer hopefully it rusn out sweet.

i have used caliper paint on rims and it worked fine, its quite resistant to flaking havent had any issues. prep is important too.

yeah there was some primer on special at repco the vht brand i bought it today but the only problem is its white but im planning on doing 2 to 3 coats on the rims so hopefully if i do scrape them white wont show lol...

Ive painted my Rims with some saturn black caliper paint and it works quite well.. Just sanded well (not to bare metal) just to roughen it up so it sticks good.

Ill look on my PC and show a before and after but just a heads up.. You can buy actually wheel paint (pretty sure its from VHT) its a polyurathane type paint thats resistant to scratching and flaking.

My mate did it to his EVO 7 wheels and they have stood the test of time and look perfect to this day.. So if u havnt painted it yet i would really look into finding it somewhere.

looks real good with the black rims. i havnt painted them yet but i dont mind getting the proper paint as long as they last for 2 years and then im getting rid of the car to buy a gtr. i have no sanded the rims with 80 , 150 and now next is a quick 240 then first quick coat of primer then sanding again then primer again and then 3 coats of the gloss black and it should look sweet

Were you rims already painted? I wanna spray my rims, but not sure how to get all the old paint off first? Is sanding by hand the only way?

take them to a sand blaster - prob cost you over $100 for a set though

When you get them sand blasted dont forget to hand sand the roughness of the surface out, so it nice and smooth with 220 paper , then you can use dulux quickdry on the rims , it will stick like a mother , best thing is you can respray if you damage them ! I fully repaired some trashed R33 GTR rims in silver and a set of Z33 rims in black .

yeah the rims wer already painted. i just sanded down to the metal and primered them and 2 coats of my paint on it.

its simple just make sure you mask off what you dont want to spray and make sure you sand them really well because its all in the rep that will show your finish. with mine i sanded them with 80 grit then 120 then 180 and then 240 then primered then sanded them and then glossed them then did a little sanding then put the 2nd coat of gloss blak on

think i found my self a weekend project, seems pretty straight forward, anything to look out for??

Edit: Repco have VHT primer on special also there usually 18 each can and i got 2 for 28 bux and supercheap have the paint you want it says caliper paint but it works for rims also and is heat resistant so its sweet and there 17 bux a can if you end up doing them by cans

haha yeah tell me about it and that stupid gold thing in the middle that i took off. im thinking of putting them bak on and see how it clashes with the black lol

Fcuk the paint made a huge difference on those wheels haha

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
