hey guys, just wanting peoples opinions on this quick motor build im going to put together before august, use it for a while whilst im prepping a built 30 bottom end

it consisits of:

- standard RB25DET

- top mount turbo manifold

-40mm external gate with 1.1bar spring

- GT30/GT35R turbo

- Forward facing plenum

- Atleast 770cc injectors

-Bosch 044 fuel pump

-Oil cooler kit

- 52mm alloy radiaitor

- Z32 airflow meter

tuning wise thinking i may get away with a nistune with the help of a SAFC??

Later down the track ill smash in 260 deg cams or may have enough saved to put them in when i add the above extras but was thinking if im running only 15 psi of boost standard cams shoild be alright??

(please correct of im wrong)

whatta we think?

sounds like you have some cash to blow, i do not recommend you run a nistune if your planning to run a top mount setup, run an ecu that uses a map sensor as the inlet is something like 4" and an afm such as the z32 will be a restriction, it may even cause the car to stall/run like shit due to air reversion back toward the afm

get a pfc dj or something along that standard :D

if your running a standard motor, and 400hp will keep you happy, your probably going to like the response that the gt3076 has to offer as you will not be able to use the full potential of a gt35 on a standard motor

a pair of poncams will open up that midrange also giving the car alot more of an aggressive power delivery

my 2c, goodluck with the build

yea i got abit saved up and continuing to do that until end of july i was thinking about the de jetro but again funds may be an issue... i wanna maintain a top mount set up with external gate.. the only hick up im having is a turbo choice... i heard/ thought 35R's are pretty responsive thats why i was going to go for it

with cams again see how much i got by the end of july and hopefully can scab enough up to buy cams as well 260 deg shuld help in the response department

and snozzle like your saying with me not being able to use the full potential of the 35R forgot to mention that im using the 25 head on my 30 bottom end so i kinda wanna set it up so i can put the head and block together and then back into the car... should still be able to have fun with a 35R though??

ohh your post said standard 25 though haha, well in that case, id also go for the gt35 on a 30 bottom end, have some 400kw+ of fun :D and traction issues......

i really do hope you dont run a nistune on a setup like this though!

i see i see hmm i guess its probably best i call a tuning place like allstar or hyperdrive to see what they reckon...

so whatta we think of the setup in regards to turbo choice? will she be to laggy or pretty responsive with the aid of new cams?

ive always known top mounts with such big intakes to be restricted by air flow meters, that is the basis of my reasoning

also, reversion can cause the afm to almost stall the car once u come off boost and back to idle (approaching traffic lights) if the intake pipe is relatively short which in most cases is

who knows, nistune will probably do you just fine, a friend of mine is making 400 with a nistune (not a top mount) and he is having no issues at all but in my eyes, a gt35 is a completely different setup as to a 'highflow'

With an R32 you can use a GTR loom and ECU (daughterboards are the same) and then run 2x RB25 or even 2x Z32 afm's if you need to make that much power.

OR, there are other big single afm's out there (Ford Lightning is one I was recently put onto).

Personally, I prefer an airflow meter setup as it actually measures how much air is going into your engine and anyone tuning for a MAP setup should really be using an airflow meter to set up the maps otherwise it's just calculation and guess work.

I'd also prefer to have a system with ACTIVE KNOCK SENSING, no aftermarket ECU out there can do it that I've seen. Sure, PFC can display your knock levels on the hand controller and flash the engine check light at you, but Nistune will actually revert to different maps just like the stock ECU does when it detects knock.

Either the bov is in the wrong place or it can't flow enough.

    • Did you pay with a credit card? I'd be putting a charge back through then finding a new sparky to sort it out.
    • If you mean the alarm immobiliser; theyre internal to the alarm itself which makes that difficult; I couldnt even see where he put it; its not in the same place as last time; but with all black wiring it might be very challenging to trace  I had someone turn the key for me as I know it only primes for a couple of seconds As my post above; I am getting no voltage to the pump at all; but I am testing continuity of the power line (SB) from the pump plug to the relay fine. As well as the negative from the pump plug to a 12V constant.    Yeah; he blammed the no start on a bad battery; said I needed to get a new battery and it'll start. Turns out the battery drained because the tail lights had been on for half the day during the install (the rubber cushion on the brake switch gave out while he was testing it as I have a picture of the car from that morning with the tail lights off..i've replaced that). The battery was turning over the engine just fine for a long time; but got low since lights were draining it so it was too low to test a start after he finished. I bought a new one on his advice...$250 wasted. My original battery charged up just fine and is healthy.    It was running perfectly fine when I messed up the old alarm (programmed out the remotes). He couldnt start it after removing the old alarm; my assumption is that when he unhooked it; he didnt bridge the circuit back when trying to start it. Its always been perfectly fine. The ECU swap and pump were 2 years ago. It's never missed a beat in that time.
    • This is a big issue for me without the diff. I just have zero drive from the passenger side when drivers side has no traction. Bec's parents place has a crazy steep driveway with odd camber and I have never been able to get up. My bro-in-law's 130i with an (unknown brand) LSD gets up fine as does their dad's Hiace. My car stays at the bottom. We have other odd camber roads around here as we're elevated a bit and if it's raining I can get totally stuck around some hairpins.
    • Yeah, I am super excited for this.
    • Was the car running before he touched the car?
