Donnon is in the same boat, and last I heard he is becoming a sponsor. We have been lenient up til now, but it is unfair for other legit sponsors who support and make the SAU site possible.

There isnt a sponsor on this site that develops and engineers parts for the R35 that we know of - Resellers yes, but that is all - not that its a bad thing

Our solution was a simple one when asked by the mods - stop posting about we do, and we did - problem solved. 99% of our business is overseas, so there is no point rocking the boat and making waves, hence we dont talk about anything we do here and everyone is happy. Anyone chasing 35 technology is already a member of NAGTROC anyway, and many SAU existing sponsors onsell our technology. Not really the same thing then is it as the poor chap that apparently needs this site to survive :P

I have been a member of SAU since 2002 and our sponsorhip of SAU SA is only for warm fuzzies because we like to foster the community some. We do no - very little - business out of it. Its just goodwill, no more, as is my membership here :P

My boat is there to be sunk then if it makes anyone feel good. Make me Martyr rather than Martin. Its all the same when I wake up in the morning and life goes on regardless :)

i think its a fear thing people may feel brushed off when they speak to you but they don't realise how busy you really are and you don't want/need to chew the phat with someone asking about pipe dreams

Im interested to see how things go with this, and especially to see what Paul finds in the engine that went wrong. A mate went through this a few months ago, except that he ended up with a piston that parted company from a rod, and a rod that wanted to feel daylight. Total loss of the engine, and the forensic analysis of the damage revealed it was either detonation induced, or simple component material failure. The damage was so bad when it happened at nearly 8000 rpm there wasnt much left to look at. You have been very lucky your motor is salvagable.

My money is on incorrect bearing clearances, due to either machining and poor inspection practices, or the rod big ends that being out of round when torqued to spec (or over torqued rod bolts). Measuring bolt stretch before removal of the bolts and after could be interesting.

most of the busted stuff we get sent to fix up is due to poor assembly practices. Component failure is quite rare if they are prepared and assembled correctly. It appears to us that new parts are being fitted to an engine block thats been ill prepared without so much as discarding the packaging. Quite often the root cause of these failures is still buried somewhere in the build and has not been assesed and rectified

some food for thought...we have built several "insert big jap brand" RB stroker engines that we insist be correctly prepared before use. The certain brand im refering to costs about $1500+ to get it to a standard where im totally satisfied that its the best we can offer.

this is the reason up to certain power levels i recommend using STD 26 conrods. Yes they need a few bucks on them to get them serviceable but this cost is about 1/2 of the cheap chinese stuff which we have found need the same treatment anyway. An $800 set of rods can cost double that after you fit decent small end bushes, resize the big ends and get them balanced.

unfortunately these components often get the blame for failure when things go south, when in reality if the builder has enough experience with these engines, good product knowledge and correctly prepares/assembles the parts they often survive quite happily when using the cheaper brands. A well assembled engine using cheaper parts will always outlast a poorly assembled engine using mega buck parts.

That actually works well as ive got 3 going between now and monday. That will free up a stand for yours as if i had it now it would be still sitting in the crate. ;)

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.

    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart. Happily the guy who assembled the engine had kept reasonable records, so we now know the final spec is: Bottom end: Standard block and crank Ross 86.5mm forgies, 9:1 compression Spool forged rods Standard main bolts Oil pump Spool billet gears in standard housing Aeroflow extended and baffled sump Head Freshly rebuilt standard head with new 80lb valve springs Mild porting/port match Head oil feed restrictor VCT disabled Tighe 805C reground cams (255 duration, 8.93 lift)  Adjustable cam gears on inlet/exhaust Standard head bolts, gasket not confirmed but assumed MLS External 555cc Nismo injectors Z32 AFM Bosch 023 Intank fuel pump Garret 2871 (factory housings and manifold) Hypertune FFP plenum with standard throttle   Time to book in a trip to Unigroup
