Would 2560-5 On A Stock R32 Engine Be Laggier Than The Standard Plain Bearing Standard Turbos

Recommended Posts

Quick question

Would 2560-5 on a stock r32 engine be laggier than the standard plain bearing standard turbos.

I already have power fc, 550cc injectors and exhaust and EBC. Will be upgrading dump pipes as well as Cam gears.

Would this setup produce more lag than a standard R32 GTR?

Thought as much.

If they were no laggier I would think of using them. I thought the benefit of ball bearing would offset the bigger turbo response issue.

I have a set of HKS 2510's that i pulled off a mates car here...if you want stock response and more top end this is the turbo of choice.

I think he may sell them if you are interested...pm me if your keen.

ignore the bb core and look at the trims.

yeah they are massive compared to standard turbos. I can't really think of any aftermarket turbo that has the same response as standard simply because they are all bigger and capable of more power. BB cores do bugger all. if you had 2 turbos of exactly the same compressor AR, same size and same wheel size and wheel trims and one was BB and one plain bearing you would struggle to pick any response difference between them. when running the plain bearing is running on a thin film of oil and they actually spin very freely with good oil flow. the key to response is in the size/trim of the turbo. -5s are what 350hp each? that's 700hp worth of airflow, of course it's going to be laggy!

I thought if its not too much different 500 - 1000rpm I would just stick with a new pair of -5's I have. Given it sounds like there is going to be a fair bit of difference I am looking at using -9's.

Mind you this car barely see's the road so doesn't need to be driven daily or anything but it is running standard engine internals with 135,000km under its belt.

    • What!? US law does not apply to the rest of the world!!!
    • No requirement for JDM vehicles,  which the 33 is, maroney label only needed in the US market for new cars I believe (Federal law stuff) Google knows all
    • Hopefully you can just unbolt them, thank them for their service, then bin them and not replace them Apparently the sensors like to set them off with only minor impacts at low speed It looks like they do a delete kit for some of these, but, it is costly
