Hey guys,

I've currently got a modded Wii with about 20 games, two controllers/nunchucks, rechargable batteries and a modded original Xbox with about 5-6games, two controllers, 40GB HDD and XBMC installed.

I'm wondering if it's worth selling off both of those and getting a PS3.

The pro's I see are way better visuals, blu-ray player, and of course the ability to record TV easily.

Downsides are no more super duper cheap/free games and the Wii seems to be popular amongst the drinkers when we have a get together. GF even plays it and she's not a gamer.

Hmm..

Good question, I've only played a handful of games, Motor Storm pacific rift was awesome. The Force Unleashed looked amazing on PS3 (but dare I say was more fun to play on Wii?)

Hmm... why can't the Wii be a bit more powerful and not look like trash.

Hmm... why can't the Wii be a bit more powerful and not look like trash.

The Wii is like a white goods Toyota Camry, plain looks, gutless engine but its marketed at the wider average consumer & just like the Camry (or any kind of Toyota white goods for that matter) is selling well.

Personally I can't tell sh*t between graphics quality of the current gen Consoles since I'm still using an 15 year old CRT TV... blurry vision FTW!

All my Wii games are burnt ones :D

Which mod chip did you have on the Wii? & what gen is it?

I wanted to get a mod chip for mine, but mine was one of the newer models where the old trusted Mod chips don't work... major bummer...

Wii Key V1.2 was what I bought, has the 1.3 Firmware on it though. Plays everything with the exception of SMash Bros Brawl which appears to be the hardest game to get working cracked due to being dual layer.

Talk to OzMod Chip there is a solution for EVERY Wii

You might just have to buy the WODE instead (Woo Optical Drive Emulator) that has mega advantages over standard mod chips anyway.

I've got the WODE for my Nintendo Wii - quite a bit more expensive than the others on ozmodchips but hey I have the ability to play games directly from my external hard drive AND I can back up games directly onto the external hard drive just by inserting the original Wii game into the system and push a button! New Super Mario Bros and Smash Bros Brawl works flawlessly.

Also I had an Xbox 360 but sold that for a PS3 and at the same time I had a Wii but eventually sold that off because back then it had little games that interest me but recently manage to pick up a Wii cheap so got myself one of those again along with a WODE. It was a well worth it move just for Metal Gear Solid 4 exclusive on PS3 alone!

I have all 3 consoles. The 360 for Halo, Gears, Mass Effect and everything else backups are the way to go  . The Wii is just my f**k around console I sometimes just screw around with Wii Sports by myself although most of the time I play Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros with the gf.

Now for the OP's actual question :) PS3 is a great piece of kit its got the blu-ray player and now finally the games are a reasonable price (the platinum ones) I couldnt be happier with it, its nice not having to worry about it breaking every 5 minutes like the 360. My 360's have given me the RROD or E74 error more than a dozen times. The PS3 on the other hand has a real feeling of quality and being well put together unlike the 360 which was made with box cutters and a tin opener. The game library is now quite good even compared to that of the 360 with exclusives like Metal Gear 4, Ratchet and Clank, Modnation Racers, Uncharted to just name a few. I love the bluetooth on the PS3 too bluetooth headsets and the bluetooth remote it makes things so much easier especially with all my shit everywhere blocking my 360 remotes IR. When it comes to the exclusives the graphics are truly PC quality and the blu-ray is just awesome I got Wanted the movie for it and it looks great.

to OP

save up for PS3

don't sell your wii dude

you need it

even i need mine and i hardly ever use it

but i just like knowing it's there

xbox - you sell it for what, 200 bucks? then you won't HAVE IT anymore... but thats your call

reality is

ps3.. tv, recordable tv, it's getting freeview option (which is like ABC's iview in that you can select any program you want to watch and it streams off the net in hidef)

download free demos of games off ps store

blu-ray (obvious big selling point)

gt5 is about to come out (big seller)

plus it's a web browser - so if you have it set up, in say your room... you can go to www.allsp.com and use the ps3 to stream any episode of south park straight from the net. plus youtube. plus red tube. just sayin. it's rad.

there was one other thing that i found out about the other day but i forget which -... i was amazed by it

OH EYAH!!!!!

if you're ANYTHING like me - you'll be banned from any self respecting video shop - because you are so shit at returning movies - i know i am. i am forever paying late fees

well worry NO MORE!!!!

ps store now has a video shop - with a slecetion of (about) 600 movies or so to choose from, rent, or buy

buying is about 20-29 bucks depending on what movie it is

renting is about 4 bucks a movie in standard def, 6 bucks a movie in 1080p hi-def

take about an hour to download, but if you leave the download to cook for about 20 mins, you can comfortably play it while it's downloading and not worry

the rental works like this

you pay for the movie, download it, file can be opened / played for 2 weeks... so as if you've "reserved it"

then once you open the file n start playing it... you then get 48 hours to watch it as many times as you like... after then two week reserve period, or the 48 hours is over... the file simply deletes itself and you don't have to worry about taking those damn videos back.

so to answer your question

buy a PS3. or i will report this thread to the administrator and he will ban you

haha

I only learned of the whole hiring movie thin upon reading this post, thank you kind sir, I now love my playstaion even more, perhaps to a level that would be considered unnatural. one thing we have used a lot is that we can stream from our computer to the lap top, so we download stuff via torrent, put it in the right file then we can watch it on the tv with out having to burn it to disk.

Well the PS3 just keeps getting better doesn't it. Never knew about this movie rental thing.

Yeah, i hired Demolition Man in HD the other day. It's a good idea but you need ADSL2+ and

a decent download limit.

    • New CAS just turned up from NZ Wiring. Looks like a nice bit of gear.  So, yeah. Triggered, bro. Realised I may as well do the cam belt while mucking about with it so will order one of them.
    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
