rearend sliding out??

In the last few days, every time I go over even slightly bumpy surfaces the rear-end moves slighlty sideways.- like it does when you loose traction in the wet. This is occuring even on dry roads.

The tyres are not worn.

Have I worn out/ broken something??

It's getting a little scary to drive now.

Sounds like you've done something nasty to your suspension.

I Had the same problem last month-the problem was my left rear shocker. It had leaked out all it's oil over the previous couple of days. Nice big oil blot on the driveway under the left wheel the next morning.

Even when going straight, just as long as the surface is not even, which on our roads is a lot of the time.

I would check the rear shockies and lower control arm bushes and this would cause excessive rear movement and thus cause the "sliding" you are referring to.

It sounds more like a shock as the active rear end in a skyline is less susceptical to thsi problem in relation to worn or broken bushes...

my mates 180 had the same problem over bumps.....took his rear coilovers out to find out that one was completely busted. might wanna check ur rear shockies. he stuck the orignals back on with some king springs and problem was gone.

get a wheel alignment. excessive toe on the rear end can cause instability such as you describe. i had a similar problem and spent $$$$ disabling hicas, but it didn't fix it it. all it needed was a wheel alignment, it drove perfectly after that!

hicas stuffed up?? but get it on a hoist and see in what condition the links in the suspension are in.

People, thx for your responses. I hate going to a place not knowing a thing and then letting the mechanic rip me off. At least now I can suggest a few things to them.

Easiest thing is to take of your rear wheels and inspect shocks for oil leak.

My car came from japan with a slight oil leak in the rear left shocker... exactly the same symptons... i suggest u get it replaced soon.. i had a very interesting incident where I was driving in a straight line at 200k+ and hit a bump and the rear just jumped out.

DAMN scary.. lucky I was on a private track!
