just a quick question. how much oil pressure do get when driving. on idol i get about just under the 2 mark on the stock gauge. and when i'm under it it goes upto just under the 4 mark. is this bad or normal. i'm running castrol 25 - 50 i think can't remember.

that oil is very thick for a skyline!! should be running fully synthetic 5-40 or similar

25 - 50 is thicker that what i ran in my old torana...

your pressure is slightly higher than what i was getting on helix 0 - 40. atm i'm getting a max of 2 on the gauge with penzoil so i'm gonna change back to helix.

from what i have seen in the forums most gauges dont seem to get much over 1/2 way.

When i first got the car i was running helix and a ryco filter and only getting around 2. Spent the money on motul 10-40 and a sard filter and now get at least 4 all the time. Find higher pressure gives much better all round response. Anybody suggest something even better?

Hey all,

I run a Ryco filter with Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 in my R32 'line and I find my oil pressure sits around 4 just about all the time.....When I first start the car it sits on 2 or so but the sender seems to be very slow to update (typical R32 skyline oil pressure sender!!) as sometimes it takes a while to rise to 4 after idling.

mine sits on around 6 in the morning, after warm up it will sits around 4, when going really hard it will up to 6 again.... pretty good and smooth driving...using motul 15w50. Is that normal? But at least i could tell is, i cannot see any problem and the car running alright!

cheers

steven

but your a 25:P

dont use helix ultra

its shit and makes ya pressures go like crap

use nissan oil filters and nissan oil

it seems the best for me so far

and cheapest

nissan make good cars

good motors

why would they sacrifice on shit oil ?

they wouldnt :)

ScarifieR, I read just recently on SAU that the Nissan oil is just some mineral based stuff they resell, so why would it be better then a fully synthetic oil like Shell Helix Ultra?

I'd say my 'lines oil pressure wierdness has more to do with a dodgy oil pressure sender then anything else.

nissans oil is a 50/50 mix

for rb's its good cause the blocks iron/alloy

use fully synth on sr's n stuff

i just found it to be the over all best

that helix was junk

went in and the pressures went low

and when i dumped it , it was all like detergent and bubbly once it hit the pan

there is penzoil in my car atm & i'm goin to drain it & go for something else as oil pressure it gave was less then helix, sometimes almost hitting the 0 stopper!

also, since the penzoil has been in i have a ticking lifter for around minute at start up.

    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
    • You have a knack for photography my friend. It makes the 86 look like a complete bucket. The 34 went with you to Europe and back. It's special. (we all feel the same about our 'shitboxes' that every bystander seems to absolutely love)
