Plus a newer non turbo will probably be less thrashed and less modded, so it will be far more reliable if you are looking for something cheap to buy as well as cheap to run, which at that price range it looks as though you are. Plenty of power anyway and I think that when you get off your p's and want to upgrade to a turbo the depreciation will also be less on a non turbo 33. I know a lot of it is about turbo rep but really, they look hawt whether they are turbo or not, you can't really tell!

f**k yeah, i passed! :)

Well done, welcome to a world of solo driving and realising how truly rubbish the driving is of your fellow road users. If you are just after a cheap reliable car I would definetly reccomend a R31 skyline, they can be had for less than $1000 and they go forever, also if you end up getting a GTS-T at some point you can swap out the bottom end for RB25/30 goodness :D

yeah im looking around, having a tough time. no r32's in my budget anymore, or 33's for that matter. only have about 6k to spend :)

i guess ill just buy a VL hehe

LOL you can get an factory VL turbo for less than 6k and that is considered legal because its less than 125kw per ton.

i got my p's twice, auto then manual.

during my auto i aced it however after 2.5years of driving, i rarely reversed parked. I personally think i did a shocking job during the test but the tester said continue, so i did.

it doesn't have to be perfect i guess, so good enough to get the car roughly in a park and kinda close to the gutter within 2 moves.

you ll be fine.

Nah even if it had 60kw per ton all turbos are illegal on P plates now.

Yeah tell me about it mate. Id rather not cop a canary :)

I was going to get a VL but the miss's hates them and wont get in it lol so i have to find something else, again. i think a vt or something now. christ.

You can still buy an R32 or R33 non turbo for that kind of money? A Commodore will make you happy on your P plates though. They are a much more practical car than a Skyline, much more comfortable too.

Lower perfomance turbocharged or supercharged vehicles

From 6 July 2009, drivers issued with a probationary licence on or after 1 July 2007 may drive some lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicles. The definition of a lower performance turbocharged or supercharged vehicle is a vehicle with 6 cylinders or less that is:

  • turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio of less than 100kW per tonne
  • turbocharged or supercharged with a power to weight ratio between 100kW and 125kW per tonne and that is considered to be a family type vehicle (4 seats or more) rather than a sports type vehicle. A family type vehicle is a sedan, station wagon or hatch normally used to carry families/passengers with 4 or more seats and are equipped with child restraint anchorages. A family type vehicle does not include a sports car (two door coupe).

From vicroads website

I think they changed it back, at least for turbo's and superchargers. Mainly because VW and Mercedes got in the governments face about no P-platers being able to drive their car because nearly all them have a low boost turbo or supercharger.

Ohhh they must have changed it since I last saw the regulations. I remember they were thinking of bringing in those changes to allow turbodiesel vehicles to be driven, didn't know they had gone ahead with it though.

I was wrong.

You hear that you assholes?!?!?!?!

:P

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
