The TRust one is meant to be stronger and last longer - it could make sense if they make the belt thicker and use better quality rubber. At $150 or so compared to $110 or so for the nissan, I'm going to give that a try..

Also going to get a "no-name" water pump for like $90 instead of $150..

Why does a timing belt need to be stronger? It's not under and great deal of stress. If it was harder wearing or longer lasting, that would be more important I would have thought. But even the factory belt will do over 100k km, and it's sensible to change it at 100k no matter what the brand. So I can't see any point in paying double for a timing belt that's "10% stronger".

"stronger" as is in it lasts longer, thats what i meant.. anyhow, that is only their claim, but its not much more in price, and its blue ;)

As the timing belt gets older it can stretch, meaning it can throw out your timing .. one that doesn't stretch as much as in gets on in life would be better therefore I'd imagine. And the 100,000km "replace" interval is for the genuine nissan item.. don't mean there can't be an aftermarket that lasts longer and exceeds manufactur specifications. I would see it no different to the pricipal that: you can take thick rubber band and stretch it a lot and it will remain its elacity and less risk of snapping for longer than a thinner rubber band subjected to the same.

A stronger timing belt is a good idea with higher horsepower applications. Higher HP engines accelerate more quickly and thus put more strain on the timing belt. More strain = faster wear, more stretching, more prone to snapping, etc.

But yeah... on normal cars I don't think the extra $$$ is worth it.

I am getting my Major service done next tuesday for just over 600, with all parts and labour.

Genuine Nissan water pump was $123, getting all 3 belts done and the usual stuff.

Flaps, where are you getting it done.

both Unique and Hills Motorsport charge over $1000, I am going to do it soon! is it worth it, can you please check if the $600 you paid for covered the things they mention on their website? how long did it take? the mechanic said it's 8 hrs long!

Supra : I am getting it done at ProConcept, in west ryde, next Tuesday. As far as ive heard he does a good job and always does it right the first time. It is an all day service.

Unique said $1300 for a major service, haha i laughed. Who needs the door hinges oiled? Anyone can do that themselves.

I didnt ask hills, because i heard they only did nissans and when i drove past there were 2 WRX's on the stands, also they stuffed my mates 200sx.

I have another question...

Is it possible to replace the idler pulley with a non-Nissan item. I ask this, because the cheapest idler pulley I found was $282. RIP OFF!!!!!

I know the tensioner is the same as the one in VL Commodores so I'm wondering if the idler can be sourced from elsewhere...

;)

I have to correct my previous posts, there was a communication brake down between me and mechanic.

Major service is $700 and Water Pump and belts $600

It's cool mate! so are you still getting it done there? I might stick with hills... or unique.

ALOT of money spent on my Nissan Skyline already! I don't have supra... it's just a funny name i've made up for this "Skyline" forum. lol

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
