Got pulled over finally after more than 1 year with the Skyline

Recommended Posts

Well we all know it would happen eventually. Had the Skyline for more than 1 year - not one incident with the police. Got pulled over just before by the orange "V8 Police" Monaro just outside the city today on the way to work.

They had stopped someone else on the other side of the road but quickly did a u-turn after they saw me go past and pulled me over. Thought it might have been cause I went a little quick around a corner but he asked me to pop the hood instead.

Police : Sounds like you have a BOV. (looking around the engine bay)

Me : Yeh theres a stock and legal factory one. Might be because i've got a pod filter.

Police : Yeh well its aftermarket.

Me : Yes (its a legal paper one so i'm not worried)

Police : Looks a little low (starts looking under the car)

Me : Yeh its lowered a little but I notice its higher than your car (which it is)

Police : Thats a very big exhaust. (i've got a 5Zigen exhaust with 4" tip)

Me : yeh its pretty quiet tho. You can hear your car over mine.

Police : yeh well you better get your suspension bushes looked at. (huh?)

They then took all my details down. Hope I don't get anything in the mail. Funny thing is when he was trying to say the exhaust was loud. You couldn't even hear that the car was on over the noise of traffic and the V8.

Not that bad a experience although he looked kinda dissapointed he didn't find anything wrong and quickly dismissed me and told me to get on my way and ignored my question as to if i'd receive anything in the mail.

Yeah, they just wiat for your admission then HAMMER you.

but if you dont give them anything to hold to you, then they aint got a leg to stand on :)

it's that simple. I love the line about thier car's ride height vs yours.

instant shut-down. I wouldnt worry aobut the mail. If you do get something... just contest it. If all you have is an exhaust, and it's under the DB limit... then it's a time-waster.

But usually they take details just to record on thier quota sheet (too prove they were doing work and not chasing down mid-morning fluff to perve on)

I cant wait to get driving again and have some wonderful arguments with the law when they can 'hear' the BOV... but can't FIND it.

Hearing is one thing... but they y have gotta find it to be able to fine you :)

took me about 1month before i got pulled over. They said we'd like to do a roadworthy on the car.. I said no problems I recently bought the car & have the RW certificate here, and then I gave it to "junior", Whilst senior was doing the routine "playing with his ball bags" in the cop car. Junior begins his RWC.. after about a minute or so comes up to me & says "doooh!.. do you need to turn the ingition on to turn your lights on?? I can't get the ignition to switch on" I go .."nah mate, see this here, it's your light switch, go'on try it... see this, it's the remote press that & the ignition switch on"

Then senior comes up & says, no problems mate everythings fine, then stats to rubbing my rear spoiler "carbon fibre blade", & the look on his face was like he was pulling himself fantasising about "junior".. I go "you right there?" he goe "doooh.. yeh mate.. that's different"

After all that I say to them, "I got baby seat in the car, so I fgure, you didn't pull me over coz I was hoonin, honestly guys.. was it coz you wanted to see a GTR in the flesh ;)".. he replys "no, just a routine check"

Haha - the H-pattern is still my favourite.

They also got me for not having a padded centre on my steering wheel - and that I should fit it.

Spoke to Momo today who said "it never had a padded centre" and faxed through ADR compliance confirmation. So stupid.

They said we'd like to do a roadworthy on the car..

Buhahahaha.

You should have asked him to show you his paperwork saying he is a qualified approved roadworthy issuer.

Half of em wouldnt know how to change the oil in their car let alone be able to give a car a roadworthy.

Got breathalised recently, & my brake pads are apparantley "race brakes or hard compund somethin or other..." & tend to squeak on light load. "Bit embarrasing sometimes, but they work like nothing else" anyhow.. drive into the breath test area, my brakes are sqealing their heads off, & all the cops are checking me out. Cop goes, looks like you new brakes... (mind you their close to new), I go "oh, do you know much about brembo 4pots" he goes "4pots.. have you been drinking tonight, Sir?".. I looked at him, then my wife & said "I don't drink, I'm talking about my brakes, they are 4 four pot brembos" you dumb f#@k (didn't say the last bit out loud)

yeh i'm in awe of the almighty H-pattern rule too.

Actually they could have got me for H-pattern, padded centre, turbo timer and then theres the slight problem of the exhaust having the same "feature" as your car Jamezilla that makes it breath fire :D

yeh the amp is going good man. I got rid of that huge sub box I had and now have 2x 10" Pioneer subs in a much lighter box so i'm happy with the weight.

Yeh wish somone has a cruise soon so we can meetup or something. We should maybe organise something as I know a few people around our area that might be up for it.

Well done.  He must have felt like an idiot!

How is the amp going, should catch up soon.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
