What To Do? When My Car Comes Out Of Compliance?

Hi,

My car is on the boat at the moment and is due next week. My importer told me it takes 2 weeks to do compliance. That means I get the car around end of month. Just wondering What I should do once it comes out of compliance.

A couple of friends told me to take it to a mechanic and do a full service. Then enjoy the car for the first week before you start to modifying it. The car is a Nissan Skyline R34 GT T series 2.

I personally hate the stock Series 2 body kit, especially the front bar. It looks like a 2000 model Camry in my eyes. Going to buy a new body kit or see if I can find a optional factory Aero body kit. Any recommendations on where to look.

Also can one of the kings on this forum tell me where the best place for a full service with a decent price is, I live in Sydney. I am not the richest person in the world so I can't afford to go to any random Mechanic. :P:):D:miner:

Congrats, welcome!

First off I'd learn to do the servicing yourself. It's mostly pretty easy on skylines to do everything like change oil, oil filter, air filter (or clean a pod filter), spark plugs, brakes etc.

And thanks to the MASSIVE tutorial section on this site, you can learn how to do pretty much ANYTHING for yourself.

Definately wait a little while before you start doing serious mods to the engine, it'll feel amazing and you'll want to cherish every moment as it is hahahaha.

As for body kit mods, that's completely up to you! If you don't like the look, change it. I personally am more of a fan of the R34 S1 front bars too.

Thanks for all the advice out of the 57 people that view my post you are the only person that respond for that I am very great full. Hopefully doing a DIY service is as easy as you said. I have done one before but that was a different car and it was a basic oil change and radiator flush. To pros like you for sure it would a easy job to newbies like me it may take some time.

I know that feeling mate... Just take your time and learn how to do it all the right way, and there's nothing you can screw up worse than on a 'normal' car haha.

I'm not a king, but I can tell you that most state-specific sections of the forum will have a sticky with a list of recommended mechanics. Vic has one :)

I have seen some glowing posts referring to how to DIY oil change on a stagea and skyline but cant locate the actual steps after doing several searches.( M35 series 2 instructions preferred)

Can a link be posted please?

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.       My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.

      Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno

      Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.

      BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
