Lads,

Just finalising the small bits and bobs of my motor build,

Its a Rb30det using a R33 RB25 head with aftermarket RB20 cams.

As the VCT gear isnt fitted, would blocking the drain line up at the head be harmful?

Just looking for a simpler motor, and if its not needed, it wont be fitted :wub:

I am not sure what you mean, but if you are talking about the feed that passes through the block into the head, and you do not block this, you will have a catastropic failure.

Where is the "drain" that you are talking about? Pics?

I did this last weekend:

Use tapered fitting where you can, but for the y piece, I went to bunnings and got a Brass tap splitter. The 90 degree bend on the left are also brass tap fittings. The rest are hydraulic tapered fittings.

I used Loctite 567 on them. They will never ever leak. They binded up so well with that shit.

From my understanding that isn't a drain as such but more of a balance tube to balance the pressure between the head and the sump (it sits too high in head to be purely a drain). By having an axillary tube preform this function is means that the oil drain gallery's don't have air trying to move towards the head allowing for better oil draining.

CA's have the same thing on the other side of the engine.

The only problem is see with those setups are that any blow-by will want to get up that tube to get to the head to be breathed. The down side is that the return oil from the turbo is trying to get down the same tube. As the tube won't be 100% full you probably won't have a problem but if you turbo starts smoking you know where to look.

I see what you mean, but what other options are there, other than putting that line directly to the sump?

Rb30 blocks dont have a threaded hole for that front drain/breather.

Im also running a rear head drain back to the sump.

    • Impossible to remove the housing while turbo is installed on the manifold on the engine. So I have to do it anyways. I plugged it so there will not be any debris in there. Will vacuum aswell 
    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)    
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways. 
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
