Hello Guys,

Dont really come online much, just a few questions.

Long story short for anyone interested.

Currently running a rb26 in my 180sx and at the start of the year planned to get more power so i had all the bolt on mods already and tuned.

Running std internals i opted for a rebuild to go forged, took it to a workshop in Sydney and had the work carried out. Top brand internals were used and invoice cost over 10k, basically dropped the car of there and returned with all work done.

A few days later i notice smoke out the exhaust and motor wasnt running properly. So i took it back the same day, left it over at the workshop to sort out. The response was compression down on 4 cylinders, anyway they're not willing to sort out the problem

and im just exhausted now. Time to move on and found out that the motor was a rush job with poor quality and workshop not willing to accept any responisibility. 10k down the girgular oh well, expensive past time.

Want to know of reputable workshops which provide warranty for built motors, honest workshops who will provide warranty. I'll phone around and get quotes and see what is the best value for money. Also prices you've paid for built motors just to know the ball

park figure to accept.

Thanks Guys

Welcome to SAU

We wish it were under better circumstances.

What's your 1st name?

And more to the point, before we get into the guts of things (and let you know where you can take your car), where are you situated? :P

$10K of work?

Was it itemised? To salvage some of the money already spent, (and before possibly going to court or small-claims), you'll need to set up a diary/journal. Journalise verbatim, your conversations and who was present (to witness). Any members of a tribunal regard a diary & documentation much more highly than a verbal.

Might you then require an engineer to pull your engine down and document if the itemised work done was second-rate, or he (the mechanic) used old, tired parts? If so, diarise that!

Thanks for the welcome

Im from Sydney, Castle hill, workshop was down the road from me.

I've spent 3 months trying to fight it, but it seems im getting nowhere.

Just totally exhausted mentally to even waste another attempt with the workshop, there completely ruthless. The stock rb26 was running the same setup perfectly fine for close to 2 years, 14,000 kms. Yes the invoice was itemised for parts and labour.

Just shopping around now for a reputable place for a rebuild now. Main things i need a warranty and experience, compare prices and see. Not willing to keep the car of the road any longer, hopefully in a few months time. Last thing i want is another poor build.

    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
    • @Stringycheese  Have you only gone to the one blue slip workshop?  There will be a heap of them where ever you live, good odds that the next place you go to will pass the car.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) every blue slip / engineering workshop will be different and will be happy passing or failing different things - despite working from the same set of rules. It's kinda like 2 lawyers arguing over a piece of legislation, each saying their interpretation is correct. Might seem strange that this happens when it comes to getting a modified car passed, but this is very much a thing. A big part of the game is finding an engineer / workshop that is on the same page as you.
    • Bah. I daily mine. ~60km per work day, 10-12 thousand km per year. What's the point of having a dirty old Datto and leaving it in the shed. It needs to be driven and enjoyed while the govco allows us to do so. It will only be a few years before we're forbidden to even start up internal combustion engines.
    • Judging by that spring perch and the normal looking spring on it - not a coilover. Well.... it is a coilover, just a stock format coilover, rather than what everyone calls a coilover.
    • Yes it is. We get stock from Nismo directly. I'm happy to take photos/video of it as proof before I ship it with timestamps or whathaveyou.
