Hey Everyone,

My R32 GTS4t has been sitting in my garage for more than a month now with the engined seized due to a unreliable mechanic!

I've been doing my homework and quite frankly I've had enough!

Well my plan was to rebuild my rb20det, but with forged tomei pistons and spool conrods and ACL racing bearings... But the budget is too much for that to happen especially when you have to bore out the cylinders to 82mm. But i thought you can't go wrong with rebuilding a motor. I just dont trust buying another motor and people have been telling me to get an rb25det? My car is awd and most of the rb25det are all rwd. There is a sump issue apparently?? So i have no idea what to do!

Please give me your opinions or even your experiences if anyone has come thru what I am going thru.

RB25DET Neo out of a series 2 RS4 Stagea.. they are 4WD

+1

or buy another rb20 and just hope for the best.

or just rebuild your motor with stock parts. will be a lot cheaper than going forged, but still expensive.

I just dont trust buying 2nd hand items no more mad...

With the things i wanna do the motor would be absoltly impossible to break!

With the stagea rb25det there is more than just changing the engine isnt it? Apparently i heard you have to run a neo runnging gear plus the loom and different diff ratios???

+1 for just getting stock parts, is this going to be a track car? if not then i wouldnt worry

I just wanna have a street sleeper... I have a high flowed turbo rated at 450hp running a 14psi actuator...

So I want something really strong and capable of holding such power.

Just bolt another wrecker RB20 in it mate. Dont go fawkin around with shitty 25's, its just not worth the hassle.

Get a good 2nd hand 20, plug it in, full service (incl cam belt), and get it tuned well (assuming you have an ECU?), and you'll be sweet.

Yeah i know buddy but trust me its hard to find a awd rb20det...

just bolt the 25 up to your gearbox, etc. only stuffing around is with the wiring. shouldn't have to bother with diff ratios or anything like that

Where could i find one? im searching and i cannot find a thing

try jap wreakers, just Jap, The toy shop etc etc, they will be able to get you either a Stag front cut or just a bare engine.

Nothing at all brother... I think i might forge it, it'll cost the same price as a whole engine but which will be reliable? A rebuild motor a 2nd wrecker motor?

How does a rebuilt 20 cost the same as a std?

The most i ever paid for a std 20 was thousand bucks and that was with nearly everyrthing still hangin off it.

If it was me. I would go RB30/25

Dude we are talking about an rb25det not an rb20... I know for myself i also bought an rb20 for 1k... spent 3k swapping it around with the other rb20 i had and now its happended again all because of my stupid mechanic! Im not gonna let that happen again... And you're talking about a 25/30... I think it'll be impossible to put it on a 4wd setup.

No it's very possible, my mechanic has a 25/30 in his GTS4, plenty of people here have 26/30's in their GTR's.

I love my 25/30 and am a big advocate of them but it depends how deep your pockets are.

If thats the case a RWD rb25det would do the same thing as well wouldnt it?

christian:

If the GTS4 is anything like the GTR, you can just swap the sump across from your RB20 over to the RB25.

All RB sumps are interchangeable, however be aware, on an RB26, an RB25 sump will *fit*, but you have to modify it. I put one on my spare engine just to seal the bottom up.

The Sump has the front diff integrated into it, hence the requirement to swap in your case.

Go find a workshop manual and have a look.

I heard something like that, that you could use a rb25 sump onto the rb26?? You know what i'll give it a try, i'll be getting an rb25det... Is there a difference between the series 1 and series 2 rb25det? Also will i still be able to use the same rb20det loom to run it? I heard you can chuck on a nistune and change it? Because if i was to a rwd rb25det cause im not gonna wait that long to find a 4wd one, the rwd loom wont suit the 4wd?

Thanks

If it were me, I'd be looking to keep it simple.. whatever motor you've got in there right now, get a replacement wrecker motor or half cut or something.

If the replacement motor you get isnt gts4, so what, swap sump across, problem solved.

There should be no difference between an S1 and S2 engine. If there is, it'll be very minor, perhaps a different plug on a sensor worst case. Should be easy enough to fix.

Your loom from R32 RB20 may work with R33 RB25 engine, but will very likely require modification, and swapping the ecu from the R33 RB25, but a nistune may work too.

Hit up the search and see what you can find for weird and wacky conversions.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
