stu is your car going to be ready? It was in bits on a hoist yesterday :ermm:

Sure will be Duncan, you betya Terry will have it ready - as previous, cant keep 3rd OS G in for more than one event - so far this year!

Handled 380 thereabout KWs they will not do 400's anyways put another in for Aussie SS - next year getting a one off gear built gotta be better.

Just put the new car behind 12 months with all these issues, but anyways I suppose its a few more sorted before we get it there.

Probably wont be in touch before QLD got some appontments for a week or so at Westmead with the young bloke, hopefully we will catch up up north

Will be the taking the usual half trailer of bits - so if anyone needs anything - come see us, happy to help if we can!!

Does anyone have any notes on class changes or accepted entries.

Been a few weeks since speeking to Bill, thought they would have been finished with there state rounds and stuff and bits and pieces and things - an entry list or something would be good if anyones chatting

Cheers

got the letter confirming acceptance of entry today. no entry list though. And no further regs, so I guess the event stands as per the previous supp regs. ie standing start like a proper supersprint and classes as per those regs.

It also says the track is open for practice on Friday from 12-4:30 for $30

Can't wait to have a drive there again. It was 2004 I was last there, and the new track extensions should be a big improvement to the place.

Your lucky to get confirmation - mine and many are in the post, I'm sure!

On the grapevine, sounds like standing start is as per regs, although outright time is based on single flying lap.

Wouldnt have minded the standing lap time personally, care factor is at the moment - run the track have a looksee, have a good time.

Then send CAMs a letter and request again for national rules.

yeah my confirmation must be lost in the post!

good job I emailed them-id be peeved if i turned up and wasnt accepted haha

unsure if i'll make the friday practice - leaving gosford (central coast) about 6:30am on the friday

I must have missed it...but whats the starting lap thingy??

same as any supersprint - standing start, 2 cars at a time. you can go together or give the other car a short gap then go - your timing starts when you first move.

timing is supposed to be the total for your 3 lap run.

interesting, I haven't done a standing start supersprint in about 5 years. only flying lap times down here.

I'm leaving thrusday arvo, so I might get a shot at some practice if I feel keen. but I'll probably feel more like beer than practice.

I'll practice for you instead okay? :P

Yeah yeah, I know, you've finally got your bearings reliable and don't want me smashing them... How about I just drink the beer for you instead then? :D

that's just a normal sprint up here. rolling start, single cars seperated by small gaps (at the start), single best lap time. Overtaking really only permitted on straights. No racing allowed.

all the supersprints I've done are standing start, 2 cars at a time and aggregate times. QLD Supersprint Series, Supersprints at Carnell, Conrod Supersprint (not like they could do that one any other way anyhow). SuperSprints are supposed to be like a stepping stone between sprints and racing. Overtaking permitted anywhere. Racing allowed at the discretion of competitors. ie you can both take off head to head, or if you don't want to race you can give the faster car a sec or two and then go - timing starts when you first move.

Hi Duncan

We are camping at Glen Innes Thursday night, maybe see you on the road, wouldnt mind a practice - would really like to know what class we are in, but I am taking my racing tyres just in case.

Beers sound good - safe trip to all

makes sense, thanks harry. we dont have the same distinction down here, they call them, supersprints but all have rolling starts. I've only done standing starts at the conrod straight supersprint, hillclimbs, and one sprint at oran park years ago.

stu, you are keener than me, i remember how cold inland nights are (come to think, so should you!). I guess we will make tamworth or armidale only.

Yep inland weather can be crazy. Weather at Warwick can do anything, at any time of the year. Best to bring something warm just in case. Its often one of the colder places in QLD, but ca also be stinking hot. Not that it will matter too much to anyone from here, but its ~500m above sea level as well, so anyone with carbs should bring at least a different set of air correctors.

From my memory banks (its been 6 years since I've competed there) the track can get pretty dusty, and is rarely fast early in the weekend if its been windy in the week before the event. Rain can often make it better, once its dried out.

Poor form that they haven't confirmed the classes for interstate people. They must know it affects what tyres you need to bring.

Anyway, look forward to meeting you guys. I've seen Stuart at a QHC or AHC at Mt Cotton years ago in the R32 - I think I had my R32 GTR at the time so that was probably around 4 years ago... And met a couple of you briefly at Superlap in '08. Keep an eye out for the black 180SX with SAu QLD stickers in the paddock and come and say hi if I don't catch you first.

My car isn't looking too pretty at the moment - I had another slick blowout yesterday at Lakeside which damaged the front bar and driver's side gaurd in the resulting excursion through the paddock... still have to patch it up yet... and I don't even want to think about tyres! I've only got a badly worn set of R888s left now. I might have to work the credit card over to be sure of making it through scrutineering!

Pending classes, if 18 x 9 1/2s will fit I will have some A050's 50% worn with us if you have any issues, if you want them and pending class have some 280x655x18 race tyres at the worst we can go 50 / 50

Cheers see you there

good call, thanks noddy.

re tyres....I'm just bringing what I've got, so if I'm forced to run my production car as a sports sedan it will be pretty ugly.

It's a shame national champs don't follow CAMS national rules, but it's not really the organising club's fault. CAMS left it open to local clubs running them under local rules which was the real mistake.

so....mostly just looking forward to a good road trip, a new track, and a good weekend

    • Welcome to SAU, what are you looking at buying?
    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
