how do people get skylines insured with shannons?? iv called them about 3 times to enquire about my skyline after hearing other people say they are with them and they say they dont do skylines/imports... even there website you can get a quote on skylines.. wtf?

I guess you need to show them that you are a motoring enthusiast. When I joined them over 10yrs ago (when I brought a series 2 R33 GTS-T) they asked me alot of questions about cars that I had owned and things I had done with them.

I've had a few skylines with them and never had a problem. Oh, and I am an old fart to

you need a garage with shannons, unless you have a locally delivered car

also your suburb might be high risk etc. depends on a few thing. also i dont think they insure under 25s

im 28, suburb is low risk. the car is locked in a garage. i have another car with with Shannons already also, so they konw all my details and what im doing. one speeding ticket in the past 6-7 years. no claims ever (touch wood).. seems odd

Garage is a must for Shannons.

For me, Shannons is the best for modified cars and car enthusiasts, not heard any bad things of them.

I am with HBF now and they are ok too. After I change my car, I might try going with Shannons.

hehe racv online quotes are Vic only, ill still give a go after the long weekend but i very much doubt they will cover in NSW....+ i just ran a practice quote to see the price even if i was living in melbourne and it gave 2.8k.....

Yeah same, from memory. Nowhere close to Just Car's price.

paying $145 a month with rating 1 protection for life, windscreen cover, rental car after accident etc. agreed value of $45,000 on a 370GT coupe

mind you i am in my 30's

I'm 33. Just Cars do me for $1300.

Shannons would do me back when I was a rating 1. They wanted like $2.8k, double Just Cars price. My R34 did have an attempted theft which I think impacted the claim.

To be fair I must say I've had great service from Just Cars. I used to think they were the McDodge company high risk people are forced to go with, but every dealing I've had with them has been excellent. They've been great every dealing with them, a human answers the phone, and the 20-somethings on the phone are always knowledgeable, courteous and helpful.

got both cars and the house insured with them now.

dont they only require driving record from the last 5 years??

Just cars seem like an absolute joke is something which I've learnt over the last few days. Had my car broken into smashed my drivers side windscreen. and I have to pay the full access to have the drivers side window replaced.

Mind you.. $500 is a lot cheaper to get it sorted compared to being quoted $900 by obriens (window only) and $1.3k by nissan australia (Window only)

there also seems to be a shortage of drivers side windows in victoria (and im thinking the country?

But yes, I'm thinking of moving my policy across through back to RACV just did a quote just then and the annual premium is 1.9k (which is about $200 more than my current annual premium) and I get better cover....

Mind you i'm 27 with no prior claims.

    • So, this shouldn't be such a mission, but there were a few tricks so I thought I'd post up a DIY for it. This was on a Q50 Red Sport but I doubt any other V37 model is very different (maybe just less steps for the intake heat exchanger hoses) I pulled the radiator out to flush it because the car was running hot at the track, but obviously the same steps apply for changing a radiator for any reason including an upgrade. If you are removing the radiator, you of course need to drain and refill, so have 5+ litres of blue coolant ready. You don't need to drain the intake heat exchanger to remove the radiator but depending on your plans you may need a couple of litres for that as well. You will also need something to deal with the auto transmission lines, I used 2x 8mm rubber caps on the radiator side, and a short length of 8mm pipe on the car side.....unless you can block these lines quickly you will loose AT fluid and it may be enough to hurt the transmission if you don't refill it. Other than that....lets go... "First, jack up your car". Yes really, and put it safely on stands. If you are not confident doing that you need to give this job to a mechanic
    • If the forester is anything like our old 2007 GTB Liberty, I could near on run ling Long's and "rate them", as no matter what, it just hung to the road, even when abusing it in a hard launch in the wet, or throwing it at corners.
    • LOL, all of the CAI like Craig I just need to put a hole saw through my bumper Done and dusted, the car runs, which is nice, I'll take it for a spin when the weather clears up Just need to put the bumper back on for good

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
