Hey guys,

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone in the community. I just signed up having purchased an r33 skyline this week. I must say that I have read all your forums to death and feel I already know most of you quite well.

Just thought I'd get my face out there a bit with you blokes cause I'm sure I'll be seeing you all around the block. My first mission starts tomorrow when I pick up my new R33 from Palm Beach in Queensland. I will be flying up there in the morning and driving solidly back down.

Needless to say I'l be making videos and taking photos along the way with my very sexy and cool housemate.

I may join you on this dinner, but most importantly I look very much so forward to talking to you in the near future, dicussing times, good and bad.

I assume I'd know some of you from out and about as well. Been on a few ACC cruises and grew up in the hills, spending most my time on the roads.

You seem like a great bunch and the amount I have learnt already from you all is astounding.

Cheers

Welcome Peter, always good to get some new faces around here. Actually use to have a 4 door R33 myself

RB25DET FTW!!! Unforfunately it might have to go through regency... Which of course means a ton of steel wool and some detective work with the turbo timer!

Needing some work done to the front on the new bad boy as well... The front wheel is about an inch or 2 off where it should be. Sounds like a new shock. They wont wheel balance till its fixed... which of course means a bumpy ride from Queensland

Welcome to the forums Pete. We do however have a 'into' thread that should have been used and not a new thread created. It is here (click). Then a link to that thread in the wasteland of the dinner thread would have been sufficient.

In my opinion I definitely wouldn't be driving a car from Qld to SA if there is any issue whatsoever with the wheel/shock/whatever. Especially if the wheel needs a balance of the car needs an alignment. At 100km+ problems get amplified many times and we would hate for you to leave the Skyline community so quickly on your way home. Just something to think about.

Thanks for your consideration mate, But I'm in a situation now where I have to get it back. Car has been purchased, plus limited cash and time has not allowed me a way to fix it. If you saw how much trouble my maxima is in at the moment (my current daily), then you would see the urgency for this skyline. The skyline is still very drivable, and Il be going very easy on the roads. I really appreciate the thought though, my family and such have said similar, but there is just no time. I need it back this weekend for work. I will be doing the shock on the monday night I imagine, followed by an alignment on the Tuesday morning. Will let you know how all goes anyway

Hmmm... the owner happens to be my brother in law. He has promised to pay the dif if its anything over $300. HOWEVER! That said. He failed to mention the car was unrego'd until after I purchased it, and made pay the rego ($470 in Queensland for the minimum). Bit lame ey?

hrm how long is the minimum amount of registration in QLD?

for 3 months here its around $210 or something... might have been worth just getting a 3 day pass and then rego in SA - unless its a 6 month + rego

-D

I have transfered into my name there. Queensland only do 6 months. Cant do 3... Bummer, but I'll just refund it anyway so thats ok. Question is, because the car is over 15 years old will I need to go through regency? Or just get the VIN checked. Turbo timer and such on it you see, dont want to get a defect.

    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
    • @GTSBoy yeah sorry i know thery are known for colors bud those DBA are too in colors 🙂 Green will be good enough for me
