Oil pressure switch is to let you know when your oil is low

Behold, the fabled $100 (S)Exa, the missing cylinder is injector related, I can't hear a pulse and the loom seems shabby (loses another cylinder on moving) OK time for some TLC and boost!!!!

Hey Dan, how's Project EXA coming along?

somehow that exa looks kinda tuff :(

anyone on here know the thread size of a T3 oil drain? RB25 turbo in other words, getting hole of some speedflow fittings with gates hoses to replace the radiator hose (yes im nervous too)

have noticed lately that i seem to be getting a weird noise when i give it a slight kick in the guts. usually happens when im in 2nd, mate says it SOUNDS like pinging, i sorta had the same idea but im not sure.

yeah am still trying to get hold of a stock GTST ECU to start with. as i think i might have said before, i have noticed it to be running leaner, but your right i really should get it tuned anyway.

have got all my new speedflow bits on now :D just waiting on an airbox and SMIC.

not sure where i should take it to get tuned tho...i live 3 hours from melb

Yeah sounds like your on the right track then :D Change coilpacks too while you're at it... i lost another one last night, haven't had the chance to get my splitfires in. I later lost another 1 or maybe 2? lucky i was 9kms from home RACQ towed it without it putting me outta pocket.. but save the headache and get them done too if you haven't.

is the R33 GTSt ECU remappable?

yep they are,

toshi can remap them, he done mine im very happy, myne doesnt ping now and all the hassle are gone,

he can also sell you one of his ecus, for around $600 for a remap and his ecu, or get a link/vipec, depends on future mods

  • 4 weeks later...

yeah fixed the pinging a while back. retarded/advanced (cant remember) the timing 1 degree.

the sparks/packs fixed the spitting problem i was getting when it got hot and i wanted to put the foot down :/ i went SMIC for stealth reasons, cant even tell its there. i can only imagine how much more it would pull with a fmic....

UPDATE: pics!

first two show the engine bay (duh). hoping to eventually replace the blue silicon joiners with black ones and ditch the breather for the correct bit of pipe down to the turbo. also vacum lines are abit messy but should eventually sort em out....oh and do something about that BOV

exhaust is 2.5" catback. obviously the twin tips which i polished, keep attention from the boys in blue to a minimum

Hey Dan, how's Project EXA coming along?

LOL operation EXA ended prematurely yesterday when the oil pump let go on the M1, it manage to spray oil over the extractors and "fog" 2 lanes of the highway. Got many dissaproving looks from people, had they been smart they could have easily seen the smoke was billowing from the engine bay not the exhaust.

On zero oil pressure I managed to drive it straight to the wreckers and sold it to them

I gotta say looks very nice - quite a professional finish. Once you get rid of all the blue bits, should look even better.

hahaha nicely done! How much did you get for it? lol

Man that would have been a site! Was it during peak traffic? that would have been hilarious! lol Probably not for you though :)

Yeah about 7:30 so I was less than impressed...the thing that was more annoying was it waited until I was a good 15mins from home and doing 110kmh on the M1, I'd been driving it "sub 100" for weeks and had no dramas, so I thought it was good for a run to the coast. FAIL

quick question; are R33 GTS and GTST AFMs different in anyway? i know theres a diff between S1 and S2s, but the new ECU is from an S1 and its idling real rough, like the A/F ratio isnt right...

basically have bought a GTST ECU to replace the standard GTS one in the hope of getting some more real performance out of it,mainly in the top end.

could it just be a matter of redoing the timing tho? or in need of a remaped ECU

    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
    • Greg speaks wisdom. These dirty old Datsuns are only value when they are cheap. When they are not cheap, there is no value. Sounds contradictory, but it's true. We are now 20 years past the hey day of modifying cheap 90s JDM cars for small amounts of money. This is a different world. If you are rich and can afford not to care about what is effectively wasting money on an old Datto shitter, then I have no reason to argue against it. But if you are wanting to experience what we all experienced back in 2005 (and I bought my car last century!) then there is no way to do it.
    • Short answer: No. Medium answer: No, because you still need to conjure the things out of thin air to bolt them to a NA to make it a NA+T. Long Answer: No - The things you need to conjure - meaning a turbo, intercooling, manifolds, exhaust, intake/manifold/piping, clutch, injectors, fuel pump, AFM (?), ECU + Wiring (woo, N/A loom fun) have to come from somewhere. You could have many scavenged these things from an OEM car that someone had upgraded from and use some of these. This will be cost prohibitive now, especially so in the USA. You'd probably pay the same for newer, upgraded components that are better than old OEM stuff from 25-30 years ago. None of these big ticket items are re-usable for the N/A car. Why not buy new and upgrade while you're there? The only real consideration is turbo and fuel sizing and determining whether you want to stay within the bounds of the OEM engine or get into rebuild territory. These limits ARE lower with a N/A motor and especially N/A gearbox at the starting point. And if you're gonna upgrade those then you may as well consider having them built to begin with. Because everyone here knows you're never far from that next engine rebuild once you start making the power you want... The cars you see on the internet and SAU etc have been built over decades. If you're really clued in... you would sell your US car to somebody for what you paid for it. You would then scour AU JDM pages or SAU and buy a car like Dose's on this forum with your powerful American Dollar. This will save you so much money in the long term. Importing it could be tricky. Or it might not because USA. I have long said the only reason 90's Japanese stuff took off was because a) Japanese people had Japanese cars so that is what they used b) Australians could import these cars to Australia with very minimal changes and use them on the road here c) Neither country had well-priced access to US or EU Sports Cars. I don't believe the JDM scene would have taken off in Australia at all if we had EU priced EU BMW M offerings, or more especially the AUS V8 Scene would never have existed if we had the multitude of US cars like Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes at the prices you folks do. After all - Do the math. I would say put a V8 in your R34 and that's the smart way forward. It is. I did it. I know this from my own experience. But at that point there's no reason to simply not buy a C5 or C6? It would be simpler and easier and cheaper and bette-
    • Reading all this... hurts lol. I have an ENR34 5MT and I paid an inflated USA price for the car alone, had to do tons of preventative maintenance past that, and so I'm over $30K USD into the car already and haven't even touched power.  I wanted to +t it. Not even trying to make GTR numbers, I'd be happy with 250hp.  Can I get away with paying much less to make that happen?
    • Damn you’ve done well, definitely snapping necks.
