heat shield over turbo......??

wots the pros and cons of removing this?

i thought it would cool the turbo more by removing it,

but then again by removing it would let excess heat cause the motor and rest of the motor to heat up more.

wots ur opinions?

and does it make it defectable in VIC?

Heat shield is good for 2 reasons:

it will reduce underbonnet temps that may otherwise have an adverse effect on wiring and other components

the more heat you can retain in the turbine housing, the higher the gas velocity, this spools up the turbo quicker and will reduce back pressure which in turn increases cylinder scavenging

Upside to removing the heat shield - cant think of any.

already served its purpose of being off - so i could adjust the actuator rod.

Whilst i have a bigger turbo etc. I had my shield off for a couple of days, OMFG, the stench that can of burning plastic sometimes

I could just see my car cutting out with the wires catching fire lol!

I've have never had one, and never had any problems.. i'm not sure why it was removed.. burning wires??? pft.. well u shouldn't let em dangle ontop of the turbo! no problems there for me.

Its not defectable as far as i know, as i had mine looked at by a couple of cops, and the EPA (when i lived in VIC) and nothing was said

yeh the heat that comes off it is bad, id even go as far as to put a heat bag ova it and HPC the manifolds+dump/front pipe, i cant stand underbonnet temps

unless u have a turbo blanket which covers the exhaust housing then thier is no point unlesss u want to burn up any electronics around thier etc. Dont do it.

Like i said.. i have 190rwkw .. no turbo shield, and have no problems and never had any problems since the day i got it and its 30 degrees up here nearly every day at the moment. It may not be great, but i don't notice any negative effects on my engine.. but there doesn't seem to be any *benefit* for removing it Skypy12, so don't bother

You will also notice most big turbos have no heat shield either and just sit in the engine bay so i don't see what the big fuss is about !
