Anyone know officially how many seconds we need to press the VDC button before it completely turns off?

Here's what I've heard:

1 quick press: Turns off VDC until your speed reaches 60kph, where VDC is automatically turned back on by the computer.

3-5 second press: Turns off VDC completely... However, I was at a track day recently and it yes it was completely turned off but when I spun out (without stalling the car), it turned back on and I couldnt turn it off. Had to turn the car off & on before it would let me play with it again.

10 seconds or more: The VDC light on the dash board disappears completely. I lost functionality of the VDC button. (Again I had to turn the car off & on before it would let me play with it again.) However, testing this option, I launched hard & got some wheel spin & VDC kicked in.

Hope someone can clarify this for me. Cheers.

When you hold it down and turn it off you have about 30sec i think and it will come back on.

If you spin your wheels before then it should stay off.

Give it ago :O

Thanks mate. But are you talking about holding for 3-5 seconds or hold for 10 secs or more until the VDC light on dash turns off?

And as fun as the thought doing a burn out everytime you want VDC completely off, no offonce, but its hard for me to believe... but I will try anyways for fun.

VDC never completely turns off, it's more a "dummy down" button. The kit that overrides the VDC is here: http://www.kptechnologies.com/products.php#/4

Note: turning off VDC whether permantly or temporarily may void your insurance in the event of a claim.

Weird, cos once I flick mine off, I don't notice it at all ?

There's two stages to the OFF button I think. First is temp off where VDC will cut in if you start to get seriously "out of shape" not if you just break traction.

stage two is Completely off where you have to hold the button in longer (or something along those lines). Either way the VDC comes back on after a restart.

You'll need the module linked above if you want to have it remain off all the time

In the owners manual:

The VDC system uses an Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) function to improve vehicle traction. The ABLS system works when one of the driving wheels is spinning on a slippery surface. The ABLS system brakes the spinning wheel, which distributes the driving power to the other drive wheel. If the vehicle is operated with the VDC system turned off, all VDC system and TCS functions will be turned off. The ABLS system and ABS will still operate with the VDC system off. If the ABLS system or ABS is activated, the SLIP indicator light will blink and you may hear a clunk noise and/or feel a pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and is not an indication of a malfunction.

I have to disagree with the comments here.

One quick push, and VDC is properly off. At least on my car. Have done two skid pan days and a beginners drift day and never felt VDC doing anything.

Interesting that mine is a timed press (10sec) and not just a quick press, albeit that I've only used it once at a DT day. It's possible I already have the KP technologies FM20 module installed.

hmm that module is an intresting way of tackling it.

I just put a single pole switch and rigged it up to switch power on the orange wire (12v) on the g sensor under the arm rest as stated on g35driver forums. Works good.

Im wondering if the people that think that pushing the factory button kills everything totally have really wide rims and tyres on the back of their cars?

Because you likely wont notice much difference if you have a set of 265 or larger tyres in the dry. Thats what i found on my gt-8 going from stock 215's which will light up the slip light quite easily to 265's you really have to be pushing on to get anything to happen with those.

With the switch on the g sensor you are gauranteed nothing is going to cut in and stop your fun.

VDC annoyed me so much on the weekend...

More than twice I wanted to quickly make a left turn into a main road with flowing traffic... of course you want to accelerate quick so that you can quickly match the speed of the traffic so not to cause an accident. So that's what I did. Just enough throttle to give me a good launch but not enough to do a burn out. But VDC thought it knew better and stopped me from accelerating. Outcome... A few pissed off motorists beeping their heads off at me. I know its designed to save lives but in that situation, it could well cause an accident instead of prevent one. I wished it wasn't so sentive.

Is that from the japanese manual or the american G35 manual?

*edit* i see the problem now. it kicks in if ONLY ONE of the drive wheels are spinning. i dont have that issue =D

This is one of the reasons I just spent a fair bit of dosh on a LSD

no more trying to take off quick @ the lights or at a intersection to avoid traffic only to get slowed down to a crawl and sometimes be in a dangerous situation... iv actually been pushing the VDC button when I know I have to take off quick for this reason

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
