hey guys,

Came across this event in another forum, & looks interesting so thought I'd put it up here incase people were interested:

Time Attack Battle 2010 - Barbagallo - October 29th 2010

When and Where

Barbagallo Raceway – Wanneroo - Friday October 29th. Scrutineering will start at 5pm, the first cars will be on the track at 6pm and all lapping will be completed by 10:00pm. For full details of the timetable, you can review the Supplementary Regulations.

What

The format will be pretty much the same as the last event. You will have many opportunities put in timed laps of the track, and your fastest lap will determine your overall place and your place in your class. There will be 9 classes and each class winner will be rewarded with a trophy. Besides a trophy per class, there will be trophies for the top 3 overall and also an award for the ‘Driver of the Day’. The same ‘big screen’ results display will be back, including live SMS messages of your times.

Hi All,

Raventech Racing has just joined this forum to try to provide input to discussions about this event. We will try to answer questions posted in this thread, or you can email/pm us.

They obviously haven't advertised well as this is the first I've heard of it

We are trying very hard to get the word out about our events, but it is proving difficult. If you have any suggestions on how to promote the event please let me know.

Michael Copley

Hi Michael,

I did notice there is a link on the WASCC Site, but I definately agree that the Car Club Forums are often the best way to get the message out to a large audience. There are a number of serious time-attack cars tucked away around Perth, and I'd hate for people not to see them cause they didn't know about it. Have you contacted the guys at No Limits, SCRA etc ?

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

We have got this on quite a few forums, but we are trying to get it up on more everyday. We need help from the people in the community (like yourself) to spread the word as most forums won't let us start a thread without paying big $$$'s to become a site sponsor. We should have posters and flyers down at Wheels World by the end of the day.

We would love to see all those hidden away time-attack cars come out to play :( . The Skyline community will be well represented by several of our competitors.

I don't think that the guys from No Limits would be too excited about helping to promote this event, as I'm sure this will be seen as competition for them (althought it isn't).

Hi Michael,

I'm starting to spread the word to a number of people who are likely to be interested, and will also have it sent out to the SAUWA Members in our email updates. We don't want events like these to die through a lack of visibility, as WA could definately do to have more motorsport events.

Cheers

Paul

All car club forums such as this, WRX Car Club, HSV Car Club, FPV Car Club, MX5 Car Club etc along with flyers at shops like Wheels World, such as Tech 9 Tyres, etc together with Performance Work shops like X Speed, Garage 101, Fabcar Racing etc would be a great for extra visibility to your audience.

I agree that we need to make these sorts of events occur more often here in Perth, as compared to what happens in Melbourne, we don't have anywhere near the level of events like these, even though our performance car scene is just as large, if not larger.

Good luck and hope to see you there at the event.

thinking of entering this, anyone else going in it?

seems to be the bulk of this events forum is just cruises, how many actually get to the track ?

There is plenty of people who do track stuff, including myself, but most of those events have dedicated forums, i.e. IPRWA, SCRAWA, No Limits etc.

I know a number of people entering the event, should be a good night.

OK fair enough...No Limits is one of the best entry level track nights, I've sung its praises on here, only missed a couple of nights in the last 2 years & reckon I've seen a few Skylines at best apart the usual suspects, done Shannons, Fabcar, Transcore etc and only a couple of Skylines and not from here..

IPRWA & SCRAWA look like they are for striped out race cars ?

Am I missing out on other events that everyone on here are doing ??

By the way I'll see you at the "Time Attack" just entered,, street class AWD

I created this thread, in order to assist people getting into Motorsport, any input you can provide is welcome.

Only event you didn't list was the Speed Event Series.

Will try and catchup with you at Time Attack, best of luck. Are Gav and Chris also entered in the Street AWD Class ?

I hope their not, I would've thought both of them would be running semi's, so not sure if thats "Limited" or "Unlimited"

Yeah havn't done the Sped Event Series yet..

I'll keep a look out for you, you'll be in a GTS? what colour?

You're right, they will be running R-spec, so that will push them into "Unlimited" by the look of the Sup Regs.

Nah, my car won't be there, it's off getting a cage installed, and is race only anyway. Post a pic of your car and I'll come find you.

If you mean Gavin Beer and Chris Reynolds, then no, they are not entered (yet). I am still hoping that they will. If they were to enter in their cars in the same spec as the April Time Attack then they would both be in "Limited AWD". Running R-spec tyres, by itself, doesn't push you into the "Unlimited" classes.

It's ok to enter in 'race only' cars. Provided you're not running full slicks, pretty much anything goes in the "Unlimited" classes :P

Thanks for the clarifications :)

I'd enter myself, but I don't believe my cage will be completed in time for the event.

sent Gav a text, he's entering today and will remind Chris, hope their running semi's, don't want either of them in my class .

here's a couple of pics. looks like this except she's wearing R34 GTR rims, and sporting a TO4Z not the big Turbonetics

    • Wheel alignment immediately. Not "when I get around to it". And further to what Duncan said - you cannot just put camber arms on and shorten them. You will introduce bump steer far in excess of what the car had with stock arms. You need adjustable tension arms and they need to be shortened also. The simplest approach is to shorten them the same % as the stock ones. This will not be correct or optimal, but it will be better than any other guess. The correct way to set the lengths of both arms is to use a properly built/set up bump steer gauge and trial and error the adjustments until you hit the camber you need and want and have minimum bump steer in the range of motion that the wheel is expected to travel. And what Duncan said about toe is also very true. And you cannot change the camber arm without also affecting toe. So when you have adjustable arms on the back of a Skyline, the car either needs to go to a talented wheel aligner (not your local tyre shop dropout), or you need to be able to do this stuff yourself at home. Guess which approach I have taken? I have built my own gear for camber, toe and bump steer measurement and I do all this on the flattest bit of concrete I have, with some shims under the tyres on one side to level the car.
    • Thought I would get some advice from others on this situation.    Relevant info: R33 GTS25t Link G4x ECU Walbro 255LPH w/ OEM FP Relay (No relay mod) Scenario: I accidentally messed up my old AVS S5 (rev.1) at the start of the year and the cars been immobilised. Also the siren BBU has completely failed; so I decided to upgrade it.  I got a newer AVS S5 (rev.2?) installed on Friday. The guy removed the old one and its immobilisers. Tried to start it; the car cranks but doesnt start.  The new one was installed and all the alarm functions seem to be working as they should; still wouldn't start Went to bed; got up on Friday morning and decided to have a look into the no start problem. Found the car completely dead.  Charged the battery; plugged it back in and found the brake lights were stuck on.  Unplugging the brake pedal switch the lights turn off. Plug it back in and theyre stuck on again. I tested the switch (continuity test and resistance); all looks good (0-1kohm).  On talking to AVS; found its because of the rubber stopper on the brake pedal; sure enough the middle of it is missing so have ordered a new one. One of those wear items; which was confusing what was going on However when I try unplugging the STOP Light fuses (under the dash and under the hood) the brake light still stays on. Should those fuses not cut the brake light circuit?  I then checked the ECU; FP Speed Error.  Testing the pump again; I can hear the relay clicking every time I switch it to ON. I unplugged the pump and put the multimeter across the plug. No continuity; im seeing 0.6V (ECU signal?) and when it switches the relay I think its like 20mA or 200mA). Not seeing 12.4V / 7-9A. As far as I know; the Fuel Pump was wired through one of the immobiliser relays on the old alarm.  He pulled some thick gauged harness out with the old alarm wiring; which looks to me like it was to bridge connections into the immobilisers? Before it got immobilised it was running just fine.  Im at a loss to why the FP is getting no voltage; I thought maybe the FP was faulty (even though I havent even done 50km on the new pump) but no voltage at the harness plug.  Questions: Could it be he didnt reconnect the fuel pump when testing it after the old alarm removal (before installing the new alarm)?  Is this a case of bridging to the brake lights instead of the fuel pump circuit? It's a bit beyond me as I dont do a lot with electrical; so have tried my best to diagnose what I think seems to make sense.  Seeking advice if theres for sure an issue with the alarm install to get him back here; or if I do infact, need an auto electrician to diagnose it.
    • Then, shorten them by 1cm, drop the car back down and have a visual look (or even better, use a spirit level across the wheel to see if you have less camber than before. You still want something like 1.5 for road use. Alternatively, if you have adjustable rear ride height (I assume you do if you have extreme camber wear), raise the suspension back to standard height until you can get it all aligned properly. Finally, keep in mind that wear on the inside of the tyre can be for incorrect toe, not just camber
    • I know I have to get a wheel alignment but until then I just need to bring the rear tyres in a bit they're wearing to the belt on the inside and brand new on the outside edge. I did shorten the arms a bit but got it wrong now after a few klms the Slip and VDC lights come on. I'd just like to get it to a point where I can drive for another week or two before getting an alignment. I've had to pay a lot of other stuff recently so doing it myself is my only option
    • You just need a wheel alignment after, so just set them to the same as current and drive to the shop. As there are 2 upper links it may also be worth adding adjustable upper front links at the same time; these reduce bump steer when you move the camber (note that setting those correctly takes a lot longer as you have to recheck the camber at each length of the toe arm, through a range of movement, so you could just ignore that unless the handling becomes unpredictable)
