With a bit of talk on the adjustable cam gears lately, i was wondering what the performance gains are to be had between the internal and external adjustable cam gears ??

HKS and Tomei make them - any other brands ??

Or - is it better to buy the aftermarket cams like Tomei Poncams, etc....Bang For Your Buck...

There seems to be conflicting reports on the above approaches...

:P

You're only talking about gears right? I don't see the point unless you get the shafts as well, all you can do is change the timing of the stock shaft, which, unless you have a tool for measuring how far your number 1 valve is open at TDC, is not a good idea to play with.

which, unless you have a tool for measuring how far your number 1 valve is open at TDC, is not a good idea to play with.
Thats why you pay a mechanic to do it. It makes for an easy 10-15rwkw for about $250, thats some of the best bang for buck you can get :D

If you have an RB25, it's impossible to fit an HKS, Tomei, etc cam gear on the intake camshaft as it literally doesn't have the bolts for the aftermarket camgear to fit onto.

It has Variable Cam Timing on the Intake Cam, so you can only fit an adjustable cam gear on the exhaust camshaft.
