Hi,

Looking for some input in anyone who has run the following tyres on a gtr.

I have limited my choice down to the following 3

Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec

Potenza RE-11

ADVAN Neova AD08

In 255/40/R17

I had a quick look at both Pirelli (P-Zero) and Michelin (Pilot Sport) however all the review had a similar theme great tyres but extremely poor life. Which is an issue as i will be running these tyres on the street and maybe the odd track day (Until my RE55s arrived).

I'm heading towards the Advan as they seems to give very good grip and also have good life (tyres can be rotated side to side unlike the RE-11)

Not really heard much about the Direzza here in australia?

Any input would be great

The pilot sports will out last every tyre you have listed there with P-Zeros being a close second.

The tyres you are looking at have softer rubber and a short life approximately 60% of the life of pilot sports. The AD08's RE11's Z1's are all specially designed for autocross events.

Guys, I'm going to jump in here too cos I have a quick query.

I need to replace a front - just got R34 GTR rims for my R33 Gtst (S2) and they came with 245/40 (R18) Potenza RE01Rs front and RE01s rear, but one on the front has gone flat (guy sold it to us with a hole in the bead seal and tried to cover it up. Now not sure whether to replace with another RE01R (up to $450 ea) or go down to 235/40 - car is only stock so 245s seem like overkill on front. If I do go down, considering I have RE01s on the back, I wonder whether to replace with a cheaper option like 2 x Federal 595s off ebay. No issues with having 2 different tyres and tread patterns?

    • Finally have an update on this  Rack came in this week so I did a test fit. You do need the S chassis bushings since the rack is 5mm thinner than the R33 rack. The main issue I foresaw and ran into was one of the hardlines not lining up properly with there it's meant to on the rack. After some gentle coercing and bending very slightly, I managed to get it to fit without any kinks and keeping the hardline pretty much in all of the factory mounting positions. I did have to unbolt all of the soft mounts to move the line around so I could snake it out and bend it safely but it looks good to me for now. I'll update when the rack is fully bolted in and functioning.
    • I hear this thread needs an update following its adventures last Wednesday!
    • What are you thinking makes a sequential shit to drive on the street? About the ONLY thing I can think of, is if you're wanting to be able to roll up to lights in third or second and pop it straight into neutral, or you want to come down two or three gears, say out of 5th and back to second, but they shift quick enough it doesn't really matter
    • I'm not a drag racing guy, but that was a good watch. Didn't Ibrahim's car have some cooch! But the big question is....WTF is with so many of them running without seatbelts!
